These included a Mock Audition Day in preparation of regional and statewide band and orchestra auditions; Music Therapy services; Song Writing & Recording; and Theory and Performance (TAP), which offers a chamber ensemble experience for young, motivated musicians. One of music’s attractions is its ability to help communicate and express feelings. Music therapy combines the fields of music education and therapy to enhance the development of life skills and can be beneficial to people of any age regardless of musical skill or background. With the help of the TJX Foundation and Essex Lions Club, Community Music School expanded its reach of music therapy services and was able to offer financial support to families for private sessions. CMS’s Theory and Performance Program develops musical understanding and skills to a high level and provides opportunities to apply that knowledge in performance. The TAP program is for the motivated student who has a great interest in performing. Eligible ages are 11 and up and students must have played their instrument for at least 3 years. Under the direction of Martha Herrle and Pamela Allen, these students have excelled as individual performers and ensemble musicians. Building on the success of Vina Musica, a wine tasting held the past 6 years, the event CELEBRATED CMS’S continued CONTRIBUTION TO THE ARTISTIC LIFE OF OUR COMMUNITY. The Gala theme was “A Magical Mystery Tour” and the event featured the music of the Beatles, with performances from their rich songbook by various members of the CMS faculty throughout the evening. Guests enjoyed elegant hors d’oeuvres and a four-course dinner prepared by Chef Jonathan Rapp of River Tavern, carefully paired with wines from Angelini Wine LTD. Proceeds from this very successful event SUPPORT vital CMS programs, including our SCHOLARSHIP FUND, MUSIC THERAPY, and OUTREACH in the communities we serve.
