God Is Powerful

The activities below will help your
children remember and apply the
lesson they learned this week.
Plan some time to do Each of these
together as a family.
Bible Story: Exodus 8:1-15, 14:5-31
Read this story about God’s power as He parted
the Red Sea for the Israelites to walk through on
dry ground in Exodus 8:1-15, 14:5-31. Talk to your
children about the significance of such an event.
Pray to God and glorify Him for being so powerful.
Activity 1: Battery Powered
Grab your child’s favorite battery operated toy
to help explain how powerful God is. Before this
activity, remove the battery. See if the toy works.
When it does not work, shake it and try different
items in place of the battery to see if it will run.
Will a pencil make it work? Will a banana make it
work? Will the remote control? Since none of these
things will work, show them the battery and tell
them that the battery has the power to make the toy
work. Replace the battery and tell your children
that God is more powerful than the battery. Remind
them that God makes the sun rise and set each
day and that He controls all things. Help them
remember the Bible Story when God parted the
waters of the Red Sea to show His power. Pray and
thank God that He is powerful.
Activity 2: Parting Water
To help your children understand how powerful
God is, fill a bucket with water. Take turns trying
to part the water. Hold up a baseball bat (or
some other stick) and see if the water parts. Have
children take turns putting their hands in the
water to see if they can part it. Once it becomes
clear that the water cannot be parted, talk to your
children about how only God had the power to
part the Red Sea. Pray and thank God for being so
powerful.
Help your children remember what they
learned today by using the motions below.

Lesson 4
Use the pictures and text below to retell the Bible Story to your children. Some questions and
answers are included to help you gauge their remembrance and understanding of the story.
Who told Moses to go to Egypt and talk
to Pharaoh? (God did.)
While Moses and his brother, Aaron, were
in Egypt God told them to talk to Pharaoh.
God wanted Pharaoh to let His people
leave Egypt. Everyone knew that Pharaoh
was not going to listen to Moses or let the
people leave Egypt.
What came out of the water when
Aaron raised the staff? (A bunch of
frogs.)
Because God knew Pharaoh wasn’t going
to listen, God told Aaron to raise the staff
and all the frogs in Egypt would come
out and cover the land. God was showing
everyone how powerful He is. Pharaoh
finally let the Israelites leave Egypt.
Where did Moses and God’s people get
trapped when they were trying to leave
Egypt? (The Red Sea.)
Moses and the people had left Egypt and
the Egyptian army was chasing them.
They got to the Red Sea and didn’t have
any way to get across. They were trapped!
But, this was another chance for everyone
to see how powerful God is.
Did the people get stopped by the
Egyptian army when they couldn’t
cross the Red Sea? (No.)
God showed how powerful He is by
causing the waters of the Red Sea to part.
The people were able to walk across on
dry land. God showed the people many
times how powerful He is.
