WEEKLY WORD - Gloria Dei Lutheran Church

May 13 & 14 | 2017 [Fifth Sunday of Easter]
We find a wonderful story of forgiveness and restoration as Peter, in a
heinous and cowardly way, denied Christ three times. You’d think it
would be the end of the story. You’d think Jesus would have written
him off and walked away in the same way that Peter wrote Him off
and walked away. You’d think that because that’s how we often
work with those who hurt us. But Jesus does what He calls us

Jesus came to Peter and forgave Peter his sins and

be an added bonus! Stop by today and see us.

Christ Our Savior, Norwalk
Christ Our Savior, Norwalk, our sister LCMS Congregation, is in need of pastoral
care. Pastor Mark Baldwin, an Intentional Interim Minister, has served them
for the last year, but he is now moving on. In consultation with our District
President, and at the recommendation of our District Missions Executive, we
have decided to allow Pastor Clark to serve them on a part-time basis. COS is
very small, only worshipping about 30 members on the weekends, so Pastor
Clark’s duties will be minimal at first. Having said that, it is possible at the
end of the year, that COS may request to Call Pastor Clark as their full-time
Pastor. They can only do so with the permission of the District President, our
Congregation, and myself as his supervising mentor.
Pray for COS and pray for Pastor as he further serves the Kingdom of God and
walks in line with our congregational policy of equipping and sending “workers
to the harvest field” (Matthew 9:38). If you have questions, please speak with
myself or Pastor Clark. ~ Your brother/pastor, Pastor Meyer
Stephen Ministers are ready to help
If you are experiencing a challenging time, please consider utilizing a Stephen
Minister. These trained caregivers provide highquality, confidential, Christ-centered care and
support to people experiencing grief, divorce, cancer,
loneliness, a new baby, job loss, disability, relocation,
depression, addictions, and other life difficulties.
Our culture has taught families to care for their own,

outside of the family. Today, however, families or
friends may not live nearby. For example, you may have recently attended the
funeral of someone close to you, but your boss and society insist you move forward.
You are likely still hurting—a lot—and need support.
For further information, contact Pastor Phillips at [email protected]. With
your permission, he will assign you a caring Stephen Minister. All conversations are
completely confidential.

The Lord’s Supper or Communion is a Biblical event, given by Jesus for the strengthening of
our faith and the forgiveness of our sins (Matthew 26). God’s Word is very clear that when we
receive the bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper we also literally/physically receive the actual
body and blood of Jesus. (1 Corinthians 10:16 and 1 Corinthians 11:23-30). If you are a baptized
Christian who trusts in Christ’s presence, recognizes your sinfulness, and desires not only to be
forgiven of those sins, but also needs strength from Jesus to amend your daily life, then you are
welcome to join us! If you do not believe Christ is present, or are unsure of what you believe and
want further explanation, then please feel free to speak with one of our Pastors at a convenient time.
(We provide both non-alcoholic wine in the center of the tray and gluten-free wafers in containers.)
