1st SUNDAY OF ADVENT
"Therefore, stay awake! For you
do not know on which day your Lord wit!
come." Jesus doesn't tell us when he Wilf
come again; but he does tell us ao we
need to know. First, he leaves no doubt
in our minds that he will in fact return-this isn't a question we have to debate.
And secondly, he tells us what we need
to do to be ready: stay awake! As long as
we don't doze off while we're waiting,
everything will be all right.
So our task is a relatively simple
one. We are called to be on the lookout.
We are supposed to be ready for the
Lord when he appears. This is a
straightforward instruction to be sure.
But it does contain an inherent
challenge: it's often much easier to hit
the snooze button than to get up and at
'em. It's our task, however, to make sure
we don't give in to the temptation to fall
back asleep.
This is what the season of Advent
helps us to do. It's like the Church's
alarm clock, ringing with persistence in
our ears: Wake up! Throw off the covers
of apathy and distraction! Jesus is
coming! Get up and get your house in
order before he arrives!
What exactly this means will be
different for all of us--the particular
behaviorswe need to change, the
specific virtues we need to
develop--allof
this is unique to each individual.
Butour
common goal is the same--to
cleanhouse
in our hearts
and make ourselves
ready
welcome the Lord. Yes, his returnat to
the
end of time will be a momentousevent,
but even if we never experienceit during
our lifetime, Jesus still wants to cometo
us here and now, to dwell in our hearts
through the presence of his Spirit.This
Advent, let's be ready to welcomethe
Lord every minute of every day.

quesi no estamos atentos será fácil perder
el camino.Calidad de tiempo es lo que se
necesitaahora, tener en cuenta el momento
presenteen que se vive. ¿Ha pensado usted
lo aprisaque vive? ¿Da calidad de tiempo a
su familia?
En el Evangelio y en la Carta a los
romanos,se nos recuerda la dimensión del
tiempoque no se mide con el reloj o con el
calendario.El tiempo del que se habla es de
la acciónde Dios en nuestra vida. Tiempo
quedebería ser sagrado para nosotros.
Ahoravivimos llenos de citas, la agenda está
llena.Peroel tiempo en que Dios entra en
nuestravida en nuestra historia es único. iEl
tiempode Dios urge en esta sociedad! La
invitaciónpara hoy es que no nos dejemos
absorberpor tanta preocupación. Las

on Monday December 12that Our Lady of Refuge
in La Union. Breakfast after the Mass in the
Parish Hall.

Christmas Poinsettias —Donations are being
requested for the Altar. You can make a
donation in honor of a loved one. Donation
envelopes are available after Mass or at the
parish office.
Coat Drive —We will be having a coat & blanket
drive to collect items and take them to a shelter.
Starting Sunday, November 27, bring any items
you can donate and deposit in boxes by the
doors. If you have any questions please contact
Dennis Pyle at 915-478-2382.
Hospitality Sunday —Will be next Sunday,
December 4. If you would like to help with the
coordination of it or to donate items (juice,
coffee, pastries, etc.) Please call Sandra Pyle at
915-478-0942 or Maria Salas at 915-867-1637.
