Red Shift and Big Bang Theory

Red Shift and Big
Bang Theory
Red Shift
The electromagnetic spectrum is the range
of all possible forms of electromagnetic
radiation.
Red Shift
Electromagnetic radiation does not need a
medium to travel through.
It can travel through a vacuum (like
space).
Red Shift
Wavelength is the distance between two
crests or two troughs of a wave.

Red Shift
Red Shift
Both radio waves and light waves have no
problem passing through our atmosphere.
Red Shift
Red shift is the change in wavelength
from shorter to longer and longer waves as
an object moves further away.
Red Shift
The longer end of the visible spectrum is
red light, the shorter end is blue-violetwhich is where the term Red Shift comes
from.
Red Shift
All galaxies outside of the Local Group
show Red Shift. All galaxies inside of the
Local Group show a Blue Shift.
Big Bang
Scientists have used the evidence of
galaxies moving further apart to formulate
The Big Bang Theory.
Big Bang
The Big Bang Theory states the following:
1. All matter in the universe is expanding outward
(and moving faster and faster all the time).
2. Because of this, if we ‘rewind’ time, matter would
move back toward a center point, leading scientists
to believe that all matter in the universe was at one
point collected in a central location.
3. Early in the development of our universe, an
event occurred that caused all matter to fly outward
in every direction, eventually forming the galaxies,
stars, and celestial objects we see today.
