Seniors: Notices were delivered to students who have not purchased cap and gown items for graduation. Please go to vagrad.com to place your order. Herff Jones will be at all lunch blocks on Monday, April 17 through Wednesday, April 19 to deliver graduation items. Seniors may also place cap and gown orders at that time. Senior Class: We will collect fees and permission slips for our senior class field trip to Washington D.C. from Tuesday, April 18 through Friday, April 21. The Senior Class trip will take place on Tuesday, June 6. If you would like to attend, please the appropriate fee ($5) and your permission slip to Ms. Shivers in Room 203 or Mrs. Pace in Room 211. 5. AP Pre-administration is almost here. All students taking AP Exams must attend the AP Pre-administration session on Tuesday, April 18 at 11:30 during Flex. If you do not attend that pre-administration session, you will not be able to test. Please see Mrs. Couillard by Monday, April 17 if you are not able to attend this session. 6. Have you ever wanted to live in another country? Have you ever wanted to learn another language outside of the classroom? Perhaps you're considering studying abroad in college or taking a gap year to travel the world. You can do all of these things right here through Atlee and our local Rotary Club. Rotary International sends high school students every year to study abroad. There will be a student interest meeting during Flex on Wednesday, April 19 hosted by senior Brianna Callahan to further discuss the topic of youth exchange and discuss study abroad options for next year. 7. Are you interested in creating change, serving your community and inspiring others through volunteerism? Apply for the Hanover Youth Service Council, as any rising 7th grade through rising 12th grade student is eligible! The Atlee High School Girl’s Lacrosse program is hosting a “Parents’ Night Out” Fundraiser at Ozone on Saturday, April 22. Please click here for more information. 9. Tickets for the 2017 Atlee High School Junior/Senior Prom “Beauty and the Beast” will soon be available and the cost will be $30.00 per ticket. Please note that the 2017 Senior Class is the largest in AHS history and we are expecting all 750 tickets to be sold out. Tickets will be sold online through “My School Bucks” from Tuesday, April 25 through Thursday, April 27 or until we reach 700 tickets sold. Eligible students will be limited to 2 tickets. You will need to bring your receipt and completed permission forms to the library as soon as you purchase your tickets online. Once we sell 700 tickets, online sales will close. IB Exams are quickly approaching. Please find information regarding the schedule and other items on the AHS website under the IB link. The Human Relations Club is introducing the Atlee High School Alumni Guest Speaker Series. The goal of the speaker series is to expose students to positive role models within their own community. If you are an AHS Alum or if you would like to nominate an Atlee alum to share their experience and insight with students, we would love to hear from you. Student drivers are reminded that they must park in their assigned parking space and abide by all parking regulations notated in this year’s orientation packet. Student drivers should pay particular attention to the posted speed limit signs (15 mph) and should turn down their music immediately upon their arrival to school. Also, students should note that parking permits will be sold each Tuesday during all three lunches in the Commons. Please bring the following items with you to complete your purchase: 1. Completed parking form 2. Vehicle registration 3. Student’s driver’s license 4. $75 (cash or check made payable to AHS) Please note that a parent must be present at the time of purchase or their signature must be notarized on the parking form. School Counseling Corner Attention Seniors: The Board of Education’s Seal for Excellence in Civics Education shall be awarded to students who earn either a Standard, or Advanced Studies Diploma and: Complete Virginia and United States History and Virginia and United States Government courses with a grade of "B" or higher Have good attendance and no disciplinary infractions as determined by local school board policies Complete 50 hours of voluntary participation in community service or extracurricular activities. Activities that would satisfy the requirements: (a) volunteering for a charitable or religious organization that provides services to the poor, sick or less fortunate; (b) participating in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or similar youth organizations; (c) participating in JROTC; (d) participating in political campaigns or government internships, or Boys State, Girls State, or Model General Assembly; or (e) participating in school sponsored extracurricular activities that have a civics focus. Any student who enlists in the United States military prior to graduation will be deemed to have met this community service requirement. If you meet the above qualifications and want to be considered for the Excellence in Civics Education seal on your diploma, complete the form below and return to your school counselor by May 12, 2017. The Richmond Division is currently accepting applications for the 2017 Richmond Youth Academy. The Richmond Youth Academy is a two-day program that allows high school students an opportunity to get a comprehensive look into today’s FBI through blocks of instruction and demonstrations at the local field office. Students are provided with several presentations on topics including terrorism, cyber, polygraph exams, evidence response, SWAT, and the day-to-day operations of a typical FBI office. The Medical Society of Virginia put into place emergency regulations for the prescribing of opioids to help with the increase in prescription opioid and heroin abuse. Find out how these new regulations will impact you when you see a doctor about treating chronic (pain lasting more than three months) or acute pain (pain lasting less than three months).
