In order to take full advantage of the tuition remission program, and to satisfy all requirements for registration and participation, it is very important that you read this brochure carefully. McDonough Hall, 1 Fl 1678 Asylum Avenue West Hartford CT 06117 860-­‐231-­‐5311 Trinity College Trinity Commons, Rm 139 240 New Britain Avenue Hartford CT 06106 860-­‐297-­‐2119 GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR CONSORTIUM MEMBER EMPLOYEES • Full-­‐time employees of private Consortium institutions, Capital, Charter Oak and affiliates are eligible. • Charter Oak State College permits a maximum of 5 students from other Consortium members in COSC courses (includes undergrad, grad and employee). • NOTE: CCSU, MCC and UCONN-­‐GHC do not participate and do not accept employees from other institutions. • Employees may enroll in up to 2 courses per calendar year, one in the fall semester and one in the spring. • All fees other than tuition are your responsibility (e.g., labs, books). • You must obtain the signature of a representative from your employer’s Human Resources Department. • Employees must submit forms to the host school registrar’s office for final approval. • Employees must wait until the first week of classes to determine if space is available in the requested course. • Employees do not need to be in a degree-­‐seeking program to enroll in courses. • The academic calendars vary at the different Consortium schools and it your responsibility to become familiar with the host school calendar, vacation periods, and the last day to withdraw from a course without penalty. • When withdrawing from a course, you must notify both home and host school. CROSS-­‐REGISTRATION: HOW TO DO IT Cross-­‐registration opens May 1 for Fall registration and December 1 for spring registration. Go to the Consortium website to download a registration request form (pdf file) or pick one up in your school’s registrar office: (www.hartfordconsortium.org) Employee Responsibilities for Submitting Cross-­‐registration Requests 1. Select a course from the websites or hard copy catalogs. 2. If you are taking a course for a degree-­‐granting program, check with the registrar to make sure that the course will be accepted for credit. 3. If you are in a degree program, visit with your faculty advisor to discuss your decision. If in agreement, have your advisor sign the form. 4. If permission of the instructor is needed, you may obtain his/her phone number from host school’s registrar and schedule a visit or call. 5. Finally, take the completed and signed cross-­‐registration form to the host school’s registrar office for final submission and approval. HCHE Employees 2015-2016

HARTFORD CONSORTIUM FOR HIGHER EDUCATION EMPLOYEE COURSE REGISTRATION REQUEST-­‐ TUITION REMISSION FORM General Employees should review ALL guidelines and registration requirements on the Hartford Consortium website. (www.hartfordconsortium.org/programs/cross-­‐registration). Links to each institution’s course catalog are available on this website. This course registration request form is available on the website link also. Eligibility: Full-­‐time employees at all private Consortium member institutions, Charter Oak State College, Capital Community College and affiliates are eligible for course enrollment. Note that UCONN Greater Hartford, MCC and CCSU do not participate in employee cross-­‐registration. Employees may enroll in ONE course per semester (Fall/Spring only, undergraduate and master’s level courses only) up to two per calendar year. Fees for employees are outlined below. You must adhere to deadlines of the host college/university in order to enroll and/or withdraw from any course. If you withdraw from a course, you are responsible for notifying both host and home institution. Fee Schedule: Participating member institution employees and HCHE staff will not be charged for courses. Employees are responsible for all fees such as lab fees and books associated with courses, regardless of full or associate institution status. There are tax implications for some graduate work so you are urged to check with the IRS to determine if you have a tax liability.
