Sandhill Crane Vineyards
Thank you for your interest in our banquet facilities! Our banquet room is perfect for parties and
receptions -- it’s open and airy and filled with walls of French doors on two sides. It can hold 72 comfortably, with possible options for more if you add seating on our stage or in the adjacent hallway.
We also have a private party room which seats approximately 35 guests.
To keep everything well organized and to give you the most accurate information, please consider
me your single point of contact here at the winery for all private functions. I am happy to answer any
questions you might have and/or schedule an appointment for you to view the room and discuss

Facility Rental Information
Thank you for considering Sandhill Crane Vineyards for your next private party or corporate event. Our new
beautiful small banquet room and adjoining deck is a lovely venue for showers, wedding receptions, retirement
(and other) parties, fundraisers, and corporate events.
Please note that rates are subject to change in the future.
Small Banquet Room & Private Party Room Rental
Our banquet room is available for groups of 20 or more. The room seats a maximum of 72 people
(8 per table @ 9 round tables). In addition, we can accomodate several tables on the stage (for approximately 90 people in the banquet room) and one or two tables in the entrance (alcove area) to
the room. If you prefer a “grazing” cocktail-style party (stand up), we can accommodate up to 150
people.
Off-hours groups smaller than 25 are subject to food and beverage minimums. Rental rates are based
on a two-hour minimum.
Facility Rental rates:
Rental is charged for any function outside normal winery hours or if you wish to reserve the entire
banquet room during regular winery hours. If your party occurs during normal winery hours and
you do not need to reserve the entire room, there is no charge. If you have a group of 20 or more, you
will automatically use the entire room and room charges apply no matter what time of day.

Facility rental is not charged during the time you decorate for your event. If you go over your estimated time, you will be charged in half-hour increments for the additional time.

Booking Your Date
Dates are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact us for specific date availability.
The following deposit is required to book your date:
Small to medium private parties - $250
Large private parties (over 70 guests) - $500
In the event a rental party must cancel their date, we require a 15-day notice to return your deposit
(less 25% cancellation fee). Cancellations made less than 15 days in advance of the event date are nonrefundable.
A final count is due two weeks prior to your event. You will be charged for this count. If you need to
add to the count after that time, you must contact the winery to find out if it is a possibility.
Menus & Food
The menus at Sandhill Crane Vineyards are written to take advantage of as many local suppliers as
possible. All food is prepared fresh on the premises. Our menus are made up of wine-friendly foods
and all menus (except breakfast) include free wine tasting for your guests. For a special meal that features our wines and freshly prepared, locally sourced foods, we highly recommend our Small Plates
menu. The four- or five-course Small Plates menu pairs each course with one of our wines. It’s the perfect way to learn more about food & wine pairing, and to taste our wines in the best possible setting.
This particular menu is best suited for groups of 48 or fewer.
Sandhill Crane Vineyards provides all food and beverage for your event. Because of food safety and
regulation issues, no buffet food will be taken away from the premises after an event.
Family-style service is available at an additional charge of $5 per person.
Choice of Entree & Special Diets
You may choose up to two entrees for a served dinner. If you choose this option, a place card for each
guest is required, and provided by the client, designating which entree selection has been chosen by
your guests. Entree counts are required when the final count is provided.
We are happy to provide selections for your individual guests with special dietary requirements
including vegan, gluten free, nut free, and dairy free. This information is required at least 3 weeks in
advance.
Wine & Beer
Our wine is the core of our operation. All menus are developed to highlight the award-winning wines
made here at the winery. As a holder of a Small Winemaker’s License through the MLCC and TTB, it
is illegal to have any other alcohol on the premises. Your group may not bring any other alcoholic

beverages on the premises. There are no exceptions to this rule. Any outside alcohol will be confiscated. Multiple incidents at a single event will result in loss of your deposit. We also hold a Micro
Brewer license and are happy to produce beer to order for your special event. Please see our Beer
Price List for more information.
Each menu (except breakfast) includes wine tastings for your guests.
We ask that you determine in advance how to handle requests from your guests for full glasses or
bottles of wine. We can handle it one of three ways:
1) offer an open bar (you will be billed for any glasses or bottles ordered during the event),
2) offer a limited open bar (you select the wines that will be offered ahead of time and we only bill
you for the bottles that get opened) or
3) offer a cash bar (if your guests wish to order glasses or bottles we will charge them for it).
If you decide to offer an open bar but would like to put a limit on the amount spent or the specific
wines available, we are happy to honor that request.
If you would like us to do a presentation on wines during your event, we are happy to do so at no
charge. Based on your needs, this might include: talking about each wine as we pour it, talking about
Sandhill Crane Vineyards and generally about Michigan wines, a discussion on food & wine pairing,
and/or Winetasting 101 (how to taste wine, etc).
If you would like to include wine glasses as favors for your group, we offer them to private parties at
a special price of $2.50 each.
If there are any partial bottles of wine left at the end of your event, we will cork them for you to take
home.
Beer Orders
Craft beer is made to order for your event. All orders must be place 4-6 weeks in advance of your
event. Each “keg” holds 5 gallons which serves 45-50 glasses of beer. If there is any left at the end of
your event, you are welcome to bring growlers. We will be happy to fill them up for you to take home
with you.
Please note: It is illegal to serve intoxicated persons (regardless of whether they are driving or not).
Anyone visibly intoxicated will not be served.
Cellar Operations Tour
We are happy to provide a tour of our wine cellar operations for you and your guests at no additional
charge. Tours must be arranged at least one week prior to your event.
Parking
We can accommodate approximately 60-70 cars parked at the winery location. If you require more
parking, the parking lot at the East Jackson Middle School is available with advanced notice and approval by the East Jackson Schools. The lot is approximately 1/4 mile south of the winery on Walz
Road. You must provide shuttle service for your guests to and from the EJMS parking lot. We are
happy to suggest companies that provide this service. SCV requests that you make a minimum donation to the schools of $50 for use of their parking lot.

You are welcome to decorate the room with your own decorations. They might include colored table
linens, flowers, fairy lights, chair covers, etc. If you wish to decorate the room, please let us know
prior to your event and we will arrange for a specific time for the room to be available to you. If you
wish more elaborate decorations that will require room repair, please contact us for a price quote.
After your event, we ask that you clean up your own decorations. If your event is after hours, your
rental time runs until the room is empty of decoration, musicians, DJ equipment, etc.
Use of the Stage
You are welcome to use the stage inside the small banquet room during your event. Uses might include additional seating, live music, a DJ, silent auction location (for fundraisers), corporate presentations, wedding ceremonies, etc. Because of the acoustics in the room, very minimal sound systems are
needed.
The piano on the stage is privately owned and not available for use. If you would like to hire the pianist to play at your event, please contact us for more information.
Our wall-mounted screen is available for your use at no charge. You may rent our digital projector
at $25 per event (computer not included). Standard wireless is available in limited bandwidth at no
charge. Because of limited availability in our rural area, wireless for streaming video or audio is available at $30/hour.
Gratuity
We will add a 20% gratuity to your food & beverage bill in addition to 6% Michigan sales tax.
Damage
You are liable for any damage done to the premises during your private function. Sandhill Crane
Vineyards is not liable for loss or damage of any personal property.
Helium balloons may not be used unless they are accompanied by a $250 damage deposit. This is the
actual cost to rent scaffolding and remove stray balloons from the ceiling and/or ceiling fans.
Children
A winery is not a particularly suitable place for children, but we strive to give Sandhill Crane Vineyards a family-friendly atmosphere. Children are certainly permitted (if you wish to invite them).
Children under 3 are free, ages 3 to 9 are half-price, and 10 and over are full price. All our meals
(except breakfast/brunch) include lemonade as a non-alcoholic beverage alternative. We are happy to
work with you to arrange a special kid-friendly meal.
Non-Profit Organizations
We welcome your non-profit organization for fundraisers and other events. Please contact Margaret
Hess at 517.764.0679 for information on non-profit rates. In addition to the non-profit discounts on
food and room rental, we are happy to donate 10% of the wine purchased during your event to your
organization.
