A Personal Word
from David Scott
G
erren wanted nothing more than
to get away from his life of drugs
and jail – to get away from himself –
so he moved south. “I got down there
and I took my old self with me,” he
says. “I didn’t change my ways so I
got the same results: going in and out
of jail. I tried to do it by myself and
it didn’t work.”
Hoping to get his life back on
track, Gerren returned to New
Jersey, where his grandmother had
taught him about the Lord as a child.
However, a series of employment
and housing disappointments
derailed his efforts. “I was getting
depressed, and I started praying
and I asked the Lord, ‘Put me
somewhere where I can get
grounded with you.’”
Shortly thereafter, a referral from
Vision of Hope, a Newark human
services organization, led Gerren
to the Market Street Mission. “God
answered my prayers with this
place,” he says. “They offer…what I
wanted.”
Gerren is availing himself of
the many classes that are part of
the Mission’s Life Change Program
including Christian Doctrine,
Relapse Prevention, and FatherhoodManhood. “My father didn’t ever
What a blessing it is to
be able to share stories like
Gerren’s with you.
This incredible testimony
of a life transformed is the
reason this ministry exists. It
is the goal that drives us – that
keeps our doors open, offering
a warm Christian welcome to
each and every person who is
hungry, homeless or in need of
care and compassion.
But we can only do that
because you share your
blessings.
Your prayers. Your time.
Your gifts. These are the
blessings you bestow on those
who are hungry and homeless.
These are the blessings that
change – and save – people’s
lives.
As Thanksgiving approaches,
my staff and I will be offering
up an extra prayer of
thanks for your support and
encouragement.
It truly is a blessing to have
friends like you who help feed,
shelter and care for “the least,
the last and the lost.”
With grateful thanks,
G. David Scott

I’m 35 years old doesn’t mean I’m a
man. I wasn’t doing manly things.”
Gerren is also working on his
GED and plans to attend college
when he leaves the Mission.
“I’ve got joy, and that’s
from the Lord and because
of the Market Street Mission.
It’s a good program and there are
really good people here and I love
them,” he says. “The Market Street
Mission’s been put here by the Lord
to be the vessel for me to get closer to
Him.”

AWARENESS WEEK
D
For the third consecutive year,
the non-profit organization, A
Slice of Hope, selected the
Market Street Mission as the
recipient of a special celebration.
Domino’s Pizza provided for
hundreds of men, women and
children who enjoyed the meal,
live entertainment and fellowship.
Our residents and guests were
truly blessed by this outpouring
of love. A special thanks to A
Slice of Hope sponsor EyeBLINK
and all those who made this
event possible.

id you know one out of seven
Americans lives in poverty?
You may not see them every day in
Morristown, but they are here, and
the Market Street Mission is working
hard to help them. November 1723 is National Hunger and
Homelessness Awareness week –
a time set aside for every American
to help fix the problems of hunger
and homelessness. Your support is
one of the best solutions. So make
this your special time to volunteer,
organize a food or clothing drive,
or make a
donation.
Together, we
can eliminate
hunger and
homelessness
– one person
at a time.
Very Special Birthday Gift
W
hen 4th grader Colin
McCormik decided to do
something special for his birthday,
he asked friends and family to give
him money – and then donated half
of all he received to the Mission. We
were touched by Colin’s generous
gift and his compassion for others.
Thank you, Colin, for helping us
help those who are less fortunate.
Thanksgiving Needs
Mission Executive Director David
Scott and men from the Mission
unload a wonderful donation of
food from DavinciTek, a local
IT solutions provider here in
Morristown. Joining them are
Rick Diana and Tony Curlo
from DavinciTek along with Mike
Connell from YouGiveGoods, the
organization through which the
food drive was organized.
Thank you everyone!

Feed the need or fix the problem?
the next couple of months, your
Ifromnmailbox
will be filled with requests
all kinds of organizations
asking you to “Feed hungry people at
Thanksgiving.”
We think that’s wonderful. But,
why just at Thanksgiving? And why
just food?
People who are hungry and
homeless need more
than a meal. They
need shelter. Clothing.
Job training. And most
of all, they need lifechanging programs
that will not only address the causes
of hunger and homelessness, but work
to overcome them.
Addiction, hunger and
homelessness can be fatal. Your
support provides the year-round, allday-every-day food, shelter, Christian
care and counseling that save lives.
Your gifts bless individuals with
the ability to transform their lives
through programs like Life Change.
Your gift today to the Market
Street Mission will do so much
more than feed the need. You will
help fix the problem. Thank you.
