Klipp Retires
One of McNamara’s legendary
teachers has told his last classroom
joke. Mr. Ken Klipp, Biology and
Anatomy and Physiology teacher
extraordinaire is well known for
his great sense of humor but even
better known for his great rapport
with his students. Over the summer, he decided to retire to spend
more time with his family. While
he will be greatly missed in the
classroom, he has agreed to stay on
as Cross Country and Track coach.
For that we are grateful!

Mr. Klipp has been on the Mac
faculty since 1979. His dedication and enthusiasm for Bishop
McNamara Catholic High School is amazing and appreciated! He
has had a profound effect on so many students and athletes over
the years. Thank you Mr. Klipp!

Sister LaMarre
The entire McNamara family was saddened by the death
of Sister Madeleine LaMarre, CND on July 11, 2010. Sister
was 86 years old, and spent more than half her life serving
the students and alumni of Bishop McNamara Catholic High
School.
At McNamara, Sister taught Math and Chemistry and was
school Librarian. For twenty-four years Sister Madeleine
worked in the Development Office. In 1981 she was the
one who organized the research of St. Patrick, St. Patrick
Central and Bishop McNamara graduates and was a major
force in organizing the Irish Alumni Association as we
know it today.
Sister LaMarre was always on duty, gathering information
on Irish Alumni wherever she met family members. She
would come into the then Development Office with name
and address changes written on napkins, envelopes, even
grocery bags, whatever she had
handy. Sister had the ability to
remember everyone’s name,
and their parents, sisters and
brothers.
Because of her work
with the Irish Alumni Association, in 1989 Sister LaMarre was named an Honorary
Irish Alumnus, and she was
inducted into McNamara’s Dorothy and
Romy Hammes Hall
of Honor in 2009. Sister was much loved
and will be missed
by us all.

Hello all you Irish fans! My name is Tom Martin, and I graduated with the class of
1977. My wife Cindy Azzarelli Martin, was in the class of 1979, and we have four children.
Three are Mac alum, Danielle Martin Shervino ’01, Meredith Martin Scafiezzo ’03 and
Thomas ’08 who is currently attending S.I.U.E. Youngest son James is a sophomore at
Mac. I must also mention that Cindy and I have a grandson Joey, 2 years old, and another
due to arrive the first part of April.
I have the honor of being your President for this year. We are very excited about the
2010-2011 alum year. In addition to our 2nd Annual Father/Son Bag Tournament, we are
in the midst of planning our 1st Mother/Daughter Bag Tournament. I can’t wait for that!
Much thanks to our past President Natalie Nugent Netherton for all her hard work and
dedication the past two years. Like Natalie, I would also like to ask you all to help offset
the printing and mailing cost of the
Irish Update, approximately $6000

In July I was hired as the Director of
Institutional Advancement for Bishop McNamara Catholic High School (formerly the
Director of Development). I grew up in the
Southern suburbs of Chicago and graduated
from Bremen High School in 1994. For
twelve years I have worked in the hospitality
industry as part of the sales and marketing
department, the last four years as the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and
Suites, O’Hare. I currently reside in Kankakee with my husband
Mike and four children, Justin, Ethan, Kaytlyn and Jerry.
The biggest part of my job will be to assure the future of Bishop
Mac. We are so fortunate to have the dedication and support of our
very faithful alumni and friends. I will work to strengthen these
relationships and reach out to those not already involved.
I am happy to be here at Mac, and I look forward to a long and
happy relationship.

and Dr. Kelly O’Connor to lead the campaign as co-chairman. We
are extremely excited to see Shawn and Kelly step up to take on
this exciting project. Over the next several months much work will
be done as we try to establish an even stronger foundation for our
school’s future. Although, the economy has certainly not helped in
our attempt to keep enrollment to a comfortable level, we have been
able to maintain the 400 student plateau. The addition of the tablet
program has helped to strengthen our technological and academic
landscape. We have become a model for other schools that may want
to follow our lead in technology. We have already entertained three
schools looking to move forward with a technologically advanced
school. We are extremely proud of the work that has been done to
keep McNamara a leader in all aspects of school life.

New Hires
Bishop McNamara Catholic High
school is pleased to welcome new faces
to our staff. The Advancement office
(formerly known as Development) has
two new faces. The first new face is
Tara Harsha who will be manning the
ship as our new Director of Institutional Advancement. Dawn Akerman is
surely not new to Mac, but is in a new
position this year as the administrative
assistant in our Advancement office.
Ms. Meredith Pauley is replacing Mr.
Geary, Ms. Davilla, and Judy Pilarski
in the Spanish department as well as
assisting in girls’ soccer in the spring.
Ms. Pauley also brings to McNamara a
passion for teaching as well as a knack
for getting students to think on a high
intellectual level. Mrs. Judy Jones also
is a new faculty member this year. Mrs.
Jones is coming to us from St. Francis
De Sales in Chicago. She is replacing
Ken Klipp who retired early this summer. She will be teaching our biology
and anatomy and physiology courses.

Dear Alumni:
A very important piece of the McNamara puzzle is our alumni and the continued support of this group. Our alumni
have helped to insure the future of Mac by
giving of their talents to so many. Although
many have wonderful stories and memories
of their time spent here it is always nice
to see you back again. Our Huddle Club
has named the drawdown “Welcome Back
Mac” as part of an opportunity for our current families to share
their experiences with those of the past. We will be raising money
for the resurfaced track that looks simply “Amazing” as well as
other athletic projects around the school.
The Alumni golf outing was another huge success. Thanks to
Sharon, Gina, and Tara for their efforts to pull off another great
event. We hope to continue to receive more and more support of
this wonderful day. Once again it is extremely nice to see all of
you again.
Many of you may have heard that we conducted a feasibility study
for the possibility of an upcoming capital campaign. CCS consulting
and our Advancement office have already identified Shawn O’Brien

INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT
350 people attended the Mass of Celebration sponsored by the
Irish Alumni Association. The Mass is held each year in August
right before the annual Huddle Club Scrimmages. Celebrant is
Father Tony Nugent, pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Bradley, and a
1963 graduate of Bishop McNamara.
Each year the Bishop McNamara Foundation Scholar Society
awards scholarships to top students. The scholarships are funded
by donations from Foundation members.

60th Reunion
In 1986 McNamara faculty and staff
were honored who had fifteen years or
more service to our school.
The Class of 1950 celebrated their 60 year reunion
the weekend of September 3 & 4. On Friday they
had a picnic at the home of John Dockemeyer and on
Saturday they attended Mass at St. Patrick’s and had
dinner at the Homestead.

THAT WAS THEN
When the innovative St. Patrick Central High School was built
in 1956, the gym was in the center of the school (what is now the
cafeteria). Bleachers were around the inner circle, and classrooms
were around the outside wall of the circle. Those who attended St.
Pats Central will never forget the echo beneath the dome.

1936 Honore Farman Roat writes, “Mac
keeps up and passes other educational facilities. The list of graduates’ professions proves
that beyond a doubt. Love and prayers to

1949 Norma Jean Genotti Walters lives
in Bourbonnais and is caring for her ill husband. She loves the Irish Update.
1957 Coleen Strahl Blain asks for our
prayers as she recovers from a stroke.
1958 Madonna Dionne Lane lives in Littleton, CO and loves retirement. She spent the
winter in Arizona with her brother Robert
Dionne ‘49 where she painted and golfed.
Her artwork is on display in galleries in Tubac, AZ and Saugatuck, MI. Madonna also
loves to garden, read and spend time with
her children and grandsons.
1968 Dennis O’Reilly asks that we keep him
in our prayers as he battles cancer.
1972 Jerome (Jerry) Klobutcher, M.D.
moved to Ashland, OH in 2008 and he works
for Samaritan Professional Corporation out
of Samaritan Regional Health System. He
volunteers for Ashland Care Center which
helps care for women in “crisis” pregnancies.
He and his wife Judy have three children,
Katie, Mike and Andy.

1978 Todd Ackman lives in Cory, NC and
is the CFO for a video technology company.
Inlet Technologies Inc. is involved with
streaming events to the internet. His hobbies
include beach/water activities and being with
his family, wife Sherry and children Nicole
15 and Hannah 6.
1992 Mary DeCarlo Robbins recently attended freshman registration night and felt
like she had never left. Her oldest will begin
this fall and will be the fifth generation of
her family to attend Bishop Mac. Mary lives
in Manteno with her four children McKinley
13, Madyson 12, Mia 8 and Alvin 7. She
hopes to send all four of her kids to Mac so
that they too can appreciate being part of the
McNamara Family.
1993 Laura Rodgers has a BA in Psychology from Eastern Illinois U, a MA in
Community Counseling from Governors
State University and recently passed an
exam that now qualifies her as a Licensed
Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).
She is currently working for Aunt Martha’s
Youth Service Center in Kankakee providing
therapy to foster youth and their families.
She lives in Bourbonnais, loves her life and
2008 McNamara graduate Brandi Branka
is the first in Irish history to earn a college
scholarship for bowling. She bowls for
highly ranked McKendree University in
Lebanon, IL. Brandi led McKendree to the
Collegiate National Championship in El
Paso, Texas which was televised on ESPN.
She was voted by coaches and players to
the National All Collegiate Team in 2010, a
very high honor for a sophomore. Brandi is
ranked one of the top collegiate bowlers in
the country and hopes to win the National
championship in 2011. After college she
plans to turn professional. Brandi was also
named to the dean’s list last spring.

1996 Sara Langevin Crosswhite married
her husband Shawn and moved to Florida
in 2006. They have a son Dylan (2) and a
new baby born in July. Sara works part-time
as an in-home counselor for children in the
foster care system.
Todd Poole and his wife Lisa welcomed
their first child, Anna Helen Poole on November 23 of 2009. The family lives in
Broomfield, CO.
1999 Kathryn Millirons graduated with
merit from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London in March, 2010. She has her Masters in
Fine and Decorative Art.
2000 Jaclyn-Dugan Roof and her husband
Michael welcomed their first child, Abigail
Lea Roof on February 21, 2010. They live
in Bradley, Illinois.
2006 Drew Hines graduated from Western
IL University in May with a B.S. in Law
Enforcement and Justice Administration. He
spent his summer interning with the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department.
Friend Dorene Hammes and her husband
Jerry live in South Bend, IN. Doreen spent
the 1945-46 school year as a freshman at
St. Pat’s.

Scholarship
The class of 1963 has established a scholarship in memory of classmate Myra Kay
O’Connor Taborek who died from melanoma
cancer in April 2010. Funds generated will
help provide books for McNamara students
whose families are dealing with cancer.

The 2010 auction “Una Bella Festa Italiana” was a huge
success. Special thanks to auction chairmen Dr. John and

Winner of the top raffle prize of $75,000 was Mallory Marquie ‘05. She plans to use the money to attend Dental School
this fall.
