Poa secunda Big Bluegrass Poa secunda (POH-ah se-KUN-duh) This is a versatile and attractive grass uncommon to ornamental landscaping. Our selection offers clear blue foliage with contrasting light brown seed heads atop a mid-sized bunch. The pleasant result strongly resembles a compact feather-reed grass. However, unlike feather-reed grass, it won’t overpower its surroundings. Among the earliest grasses to green, it also blooms in spring - attractively. Flowers display pendulous white stamens that catch the light. It’s tough, too. A deep and fibrous root system make it drought-tolerant and a strong competitor against weeds. Native Roots Height: 24 to 36-inches. Diameter: 6 to 10-inches. It prefers well-drained soils, but will grow in either slightly-acidic or slightly-alkaline clay or sand. It does not tolerate saline conditions well. And, although it is a cool season grass, it will not go dormant if given sufficient water. Available in seed and plugs. Suitable for 4-inch and 6-inch pots.
