International Baccalaureate Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable
and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful
world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and
international organizations to develop challenging programmes of
international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active,
compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with
their differences, can also be right.
We are delighted with your interest in the International Baccalaureate Programme at Rifle High
School. Highly motivated students with top-level academic abilities and lofty standards of
performance are obvious candidates for the IB Programme. However, since the IB Programme is
intended to attract a wide variety of learners, students with grades just above average (C+) can be
successful, provided they are highly self-motivated. Students who have a solid and well-rounded
freshman and sophomore academic and extra-curricular background are considered excellent
candidates for the program. Students who are participating in the IB Programme are encouraged
to be involved in extra-curricular activities and athletics. These activities play an important role
in the IB Programme.
This application must be completed and returned to either your 8th Grade Counselor or the RHS
Main Office. Be sure to complete all portions of the application and pay attention to the detail
and quality of your work.
ITEMS REQUIRED FOR AN APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED COMPLETE

Completed application form. All pages completed and all blanks filled as necessary. It is
important that the application reflects the quality of work that you are capable of
producing.

Completed Extra-curricular Questionnaire.

Signed and dated Rifle Honor Code and Declaration.
•
Copy of current transcript/attendance record.
•
The names and signatures of three teacher references.
•
Completed application essay.
In addition to a completed application, we screen candidates for evidence of high motivation,
personal management skills, work ethic, attendance, and a strong desire to participate in the
Honors Program. The IB Learner Profile that is included with the application is also a telling
representation of the type of student who will thrive in this program. Please honestly reflect on
the qualities listed on the profile to determine if the student would be a good match for IB.
