Children ages 0-7 require adult accompaniment in the water. Both the child and adult must pay. Adults supervising children ages 8-11 must be prepared to pay should the lifeguard express any concerns re: a child's swimming ability. Passes are not eligible for holds. Child Minding Child Minding is available for up to 90 minutes for family membership holders. Parents/guardians must remain in the facility. Shuffleboard (50+) A game in which players use cues to push weighted discs, sending them gliding down a narrow and elongated court, with the purpose of having them come to rest within a marked scoring area. Swim Fit This program is designed to encourage fitness through structured training sessions. It provides opportunities to increase physical fitness, improve stroke techniques and receive regular coaching. Swim Lessons (18+ / 50+) Whether upgrading your skills or a first time swimmer, these lessons will help you meet your swimming goals. No registration required. To join our Aquatics Team you must be a minimum age of 16 and hold both your Lifeguarding and Standard First Aid certifications. See the steps below: YMCA Learn to Swim Level 7 (Preferred) Jr. Lifeguarding (Adv. aquatics program recommended) Bronze Star (Recommended) Bronze Medallion (Required) Join a team of young people with a passion for safety and perfection in first aid, lifesaving skills, physical fitness, leadership and teamwork. Earn credit towards the YMCA Learn to Swim Levels 5, 6 & 7 Advance lifesaving course designed to prepare participants for Bronze Medallion. Emphasis placed on rescue drills, fitness skills and victim recognition. Prerequisite: Star 3+ First step in advance lifesaving. Prerequisite: Current Bronze Star (no age requirement) or minimum age of 13. Bronze Cross (Required) Standard First Aid /CPR C/AED (Required) National Lifeguard (NLS) Pool Option (Required) Second step in advance lifesaving. Prerequisite: Current Bronze Medallion. Parent participation required. “Rolling Registration“ is the name for the YMCA format of offering lessons throughout the year which requires minimal re-registration and in which people may register at any time. Li'l Dippers (3-5 yrs) Bobbers, Floaters and Gliders. Parent participation optional. Learn to Swim (6+ yrs) Otter, Seal, Dolphin, Swimmer. Star Levels (6+ yrs) Star 1-7. Due to the technical nature of Star Levels 3-7 children may be required to re-register for a level specific slot. * Due to the demand for swim lessons children may be either registered for one time slot OR on a wait list. Lesson Breaks: • Resume Wed, Jan 4, 2017 • Last day before Easter break: Sun, Apr 9 • Resume Mon, Apr 24 • Last day Sun, Jun 18 Note: Builds on the fundamental skills, knowledge and values of the Lifesaving Society to develop the practical skills and knowledge required by lifeguards. Prerequisite: Minimum age of 16 at time of exam (must be age 16 to guard in NL) and hold Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid, and CPR C. Recertification required every two years. Lessons will not go ahead on stat holiday or on days when all schools are closed due to inclement weather. Progress cards not collected two weeks after the start of a lesson break will be discarded. Advanced Aquatics Courses Become a swim instructor, lifeguard or take a course for personal development. Available to members and guests age 19+. Children under age 12 must be directly supervised at all times. The additional guidelines apply to all Pools, Swims and Parties: • • • Children under age 8 must be within arm’s reach of a responsible person age 16+ in the water (1:1 or 1:3 in lifejackets) Children age 8-11 who successfully complete the facility swim test (*swimmers) must be supervised by a responsible person age 16+ in the water or on deck (1:8) Children age 8-11 who do not successfully complete the facility swim test (non-swimmers) must be within arm’s reach of a responsible person age 16+ in the water (1:3 or 1:8 in lifejackets) * A swimmer is defined as an individual who can jump feet first into deep water, surface and swim 25m without assistance or stopping. This class, held in the comfort of water, is designed for all fitness levels and is designed to improve your cardio, strength and range of motion. Aqua Jog Rec Swim Everyone welcome. No lanes available. Rec / Lane Swim Everyone welcome. Three lanes available. Aqua Jogging mimics’ the movement of jogging but without the impact. This class may take place in deep or shallow areas of the main pool. Skills & Drills Aqua Fit Parent & Tot Dash & Splash ** All are welcome! Bring along your little one for an Aqua Fit class of cardiovascular training, toning and stretching. Child accompaniment optional. Aqua Sport** Children ages 6-12 are introduced to various aqua sports such as polo, water volleyball and more. Participants must be able to swim two lengths of the Main Pool. Registration required. Family Swim For families and adults accompanied with children. No lanes available. Family / Lane Swim This drop-in program allows you to build your swimming skills between lessons. Must be able to swim a minimum of 25 meters. Staff supervised. Children will participate in track activities before making a splash in the pool. Staff supervised. Registration required. Swim Fit This program is designed to encourage fitness through structured training sessions. It provides opportunities to increase physical fitness, improve stroke techniques and receive regular coaching. Swim Lessons (18+/ 50+) Whether upgrading your skills or a first time swimmer, these lessons will help you meet your swimming goals. No registration required. For families and adults accompanied with children. Three lanes available. Teen Swim Lifeguard Club** (ages 10-14) Enjoy time in the Play Pool with your little one. For parents/guardians with children 0-4 years. Slide not available. The Lifeguard Club is a chance to build a network of like-minded individuals with a passion for skill development and knowledge within the lifesaving community. For Star 5+. Lane Swim Slow, medium and fast lanes are provided. A leisure lane is also available for those who wish to water walk, exercise or swim leisurely. Ages 13-17. Tot Time (ages 0-4) Tot Lessons (ages 0-2) Parent participation required for these Splasher and Bubbler levels. No registration required.
