It was extremely disappointing on Monday, when 17 children (8% of the school population) did not return to school when expected. The main reason given for this was because parents thought there was a training day for staff on Monday. Mrs Roche and Mr Moran then spent two hours phoning round parents to find out where these children were and why they were not in school. Given that the school holiday list is on the school website, and the Newsletter lists each and every school holiday well in advance, it is unclear why this sort of mistake should happen. Parents receive a copy of the Newsletter via email, every week, a copy is uploaded to the school website, it is displayed in the back of church, it is displayed on the Parents Noticeboard in the school yard and spare copies can be found in the letter rack by the school office therefore there should be no confusion about term dates. Unfortunately, several of these children had to be marked with an unauthorised absence, along with other children whose parents took extended holidays over Easter, into the new school term. As a result, the overall attendance figure for school dropped by 1.4% to 95.5%, whilst the unauthorised absences increased by 1.9 % to 2.3%. This does not reflect well on the school and we would therefore ask parents to work with us to ensure all the children are in school when expected. A huge well done to all our children who achieved 100% attendance last term.
