Marking and feedback policy 2015

Oakfield Primary School
Marking and feedback policy
Our marking will be smart, focused on impact.
The objective, success criteria and targets should be the focus of our
marking.
Marking should be smart in all subjects. Children should receive
comments, corrections and challenges as and when required.
Marking will be completed in black pen.
Pink and green
Pink ticks are used to show all correct answers in mathematics.
In all other subjects, pick ticks are used to show where the
objective/success criteria/target have been met.
Green, wavy underlining indicates a correction/change needs to be
made. Symbols are used to help the child know what is needed:
Reception/KS1/Resource Provision
Underline in green and symbols to be written on the left hand side of
the page
=FS
=CL
=Finger spaces
=Spelling
=letter formation (to then be practised- write the letter/s for the
child underneath the piece of work/on the next page)
Up-level the word choice (written to the left of the word)
KS2
Underline in green and symbols to be written in the margin
ss = sentence structure
p = punctuation
r = repetition
Sp= spelling
t=tense
Up-level the word choice/sentence (written to the left of the
underlined word/sentence)
Please note that incorrect spellings are not underlined unless this is a
focus of the lesson or a word that they should know.
Next steps/extending learning
Children should be given a balance of corrections and opportunities to
extend their learning. This can be written in the form of an open ended
question or challenge and underlined in green.
Response time
Children must be given ‘Green to grow’ time. The child’s responses will
be completed in a purple ‘polishing pen’. These responses must then be
marked by the teacher in a blue pen.
In KS1, this should be during or at the end of a group session.
In KS2, this will be at the beginning of the next lesson for all subjects
other than mathematics. In mathematics, the early morning challenge
time should be used for this.
Marking should indicate the level of support given to a child:
I= Independent
P=Paired activity
GA= Guided activity (child worked as part of a group)
S= Some support given (the S should be written beside the aspect
supported)
V= Verbal feedback given. The feedback must be written beside the V in
the child’s book.
Monitoring and review
The assessment coordinator is responsible for monitoring the
implementation of this policy. We allocate special time for this task. The
coordinator uses this time to inspect samples of the children's work, and
to observe the policy being implemented in the classroom.
All senior staff monitor pupils’ overall progress on a regular basis so that
potential concerns can be identified and addressed as soon as possible.
This policy will be reviewed: Autumn 2015.
