Today we travel to Chester for a delightful Lunch Cruise at the Mill Hotel. See Chester from a
different perspective, viewing parts of the city unreachable by other transport. All food served
onboard is freshly prepared in the Hotel’s kitchen. The starter course is served, and you sail
away along the Shropshire Union Canal towards the Northgate Lock returning to collect the
main course and continuing your journey towards Hoole Lane Lock and beyond, before
returning to the hotel where your voyage ends. We then have a short time to spend in Chester

The centre of the British liquorice industry was Pontefract (remember those little black
sweeties called Pontefract or Pomfret Cakes?) and the annual festival celebrates the town’s
liquorice growing heritage. Originally used medicinally, liquorice is believed to have reached
the UK with returning crusaders in medieval times; by the late nineteenth century there were
10 local sweet producers. As well as the expected edibles and drinks made from the roots,
there are street entertainers, activities for children, history talks and stalls. An original
liquorice tree still grows in the grounds of the Castle - it’s labelled and grows next to the walls
