Letter from the Director
The Secret Garden, written in 1911, by
Frances Hodgson Burnett, has long been a favorite
book from childhood for many people. The story of
Mary Lennox and her remarkable journey from India
to Misselthwaite Manor in England is full of emotion,
generosity of spirit and even a bit of mystery. Her
transformation from a lonely, spoiled orphan into a
happy, generous girl is made possible and
symbolized by the locked up, long forgotten secret
garden she stumbles upon with the help of a friendly
robin. Maryʼs immense love of the garden leads her
to discover herself and the wonder and magic of
nature. The garden heals Mary and she in turn
learns how to help heal others. The garden gives
Mary the best gift in the world... love.
That is the power of The Secret Garden even
after one hundred years. We are honored to bring
this beloved story to you tonight. We hope you find
it as inspiring as we do.
Enjoy the show!
