Shakespeare's
Twelfth Night
Shakespeare on the Lawn returns this summer to
the library for another fun-filled event. On Sunday,
July 24 at 2pm, the Wyoming Shakespeare Company will present Twelfth Night: Or, What You Will.
Twelfth Night is considered to be one of Shakespeare's most delightful comedies. Not familiar
with it? Here’s a synopsis:
Orsino is in love with Olivia, but Olivia is in
love with a young chap named Cesario. He
doesn't know Cesario is actually Viola - a girl
disguised as a boy.
Meanwhile, Malvolio thinks Olivia really likes
him. She doesn't.
Viola is in love with Orsino. Viola and Sebastian are twins. Both of the twins think the
other one is dead.
Shakespeare enjoyed using the themes of sex,
death, and mistaken identity, and no where does
he use those themes more amusingly than in
Twelfth Night. Written at the same time as Hamlet,
Twelfth Night takes place in Illyria, along the coast

Hi! I’m Ana Cuprill and I’ve lived in Pinedale for

and the Caribbean. I am a graduate of Northland
College in Wisconsin with a degree in Biology, and
have lots of experience working in many fields.

Who Was
Alice Wanner?
I was fortunate to have had the
privilege and pleasure of
working with Alice Wanner
during the years she was the
Sublette County Librarian,
1975-1982.
Under her leadership, the
library’s collection flourished,
the Library Foundation was
established, and best of all, she
made anyone who walked
through the library’s front
door feel welcomed and at
home. Her intellectual
curiosity meant she never
stopped learning. Alice was
an ideal mentor, and by the
time she retired, we had become
the best of friends. I miss her.
--Daphne Platts,
County Librarian
Alice Wanner died on March 10,
2005 in her home in Denver,
Colorado.
Librarians have always been
among the most thoughtful and
helpful people. They are teachers
without a classroom.

Shakespeare
of Italy.
If you think Shakespeare is too “hoity-toity” for
you, give it a try! Shakespeare created plays
with down-to-earth characters in order to appeal
to everybody from aristocrats to the working
class.
So don’t miss this special event! Tickets are
only $5 per person.
Shakespeare on the Lawn is co-sponsored by
the Pinedale Fine Arts Council. Visit their web

DVDs Replacing VHS in
Popularity
A few Big Piney kids recently stopped into the
library to do research on their History Day project. History Day is an exciting academic enrichment program that allows Wyoming kids to
do in-depth research and deliver presentations
on historical issues, ideas, people and events.
You knew it was happening, just like with 8tracks and cassettes. Library staff has been
predicting it would happen, and we dug up the
stats to prove it!
The kids asked for music from World War I and
checked out the music cds, “War’s
Embers” songs and “Stars and Stripes” band
music. Their project got 2nd place locally and
they went on to State competitions!
VHS use has been slowly declining since the
2002-03 fiscal year, while DVDs have risen
rapidly in popularity. For the first time, DVDs
will soon officially replace VHS as the sought
after mode of movie watching.
