Teaching and Learning
This week the children have been learning
about Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson.
The children have heard the story,
described an animal from the story, created
hanging monkeys and explored subtraction
through the number of bananas that the
monkey eats!
Ideas for learning at home….
• read stories with jungle animals as
characters
• Visit the Monkey Forest at Trentham
• Discuss animals and the name of their
young
Reading Books
Please ensure reading books are in everyday.
Please continue to sign the reading journal to
indicate when you have read with your child.
We hope you all have a restful half term
and look forward to seeing you after the
holidays.
Letters and sounds
Miss Causer: relearning the trigraph
air as in chair and the digraph oi as in
coin. We are also learning to write 2
syllable words such as cobweb and
visit.
Mrs Cheshire: learn the digraph ai as
in pain and rain, and the digraph ee
as in peep and keep. Learn how to
form these correctly and apply when
reading and writing.
Show and Tell
Children with the surname A to H are
invited to show and tell on Friday 28th
February 2014
The theme is ‘Under the Ocean’. The
children may choose to bring in a picture
of them by the ocean, a shell or a book
about the ocean.
Children with the surnames I to Z will
show and tell on Friday 7th of February
2014.
Library Books
Please ensure your child has their library
book in school every Friday to enable them
the opportunity to select a new book to
share at home.
Buttons and Coats
Over the half term break we ask that all
children practise zipping up or buttoning
their coats. We would also like the
children to practise buttoning shirts and
blouses to help them to become more
independent when changing for P.E.
Learning Journeys
Today we have sent home your child’s
learning journey from a previous setting if
we were provided with one. We enjoyed
looking at them as we are sure you will.
These are now yours to keep.
Surname writing
During the holidays, we would appreciate it
if you are able to focus with your child on
their ability to write their whole name i.e.
their Christian and surname.
Thank-you
