CINEMA DEVELOPMENT
China Film Stellar theater chain signed an
agreement to purchase 18 China Film Giant
Screens for its cinemas nationwide. Prior to
the new deal, a total of 15 of the systems
meant to compete with IMAX had been
sold.
Chinese entertainment and media company
SMI Corporation signed an agreement to
install 100 RealD projection systems in 40
cinemas nationwide. Shanghai Film Group
signed with Christie to install 750 digital
cinema projectors in 200 cinemas controlled
by
the
group’s Shanghai
United
Circuit subsidiary.

announced the establishment of a
Cross-media Movie Theater Line Platform
with an initial investment budget of RMB
500 million ($78.6 million). The new project
aims to extend the commercial life of films
after their theatrical screenings through
distribution digital TV platforms.

Channel/CCTV6, the
dedicated
movie
channel of state-run broadcaster China
Central Television, inked a deal with U.S.
company Jiaflix Enterprises to launch an
online pay-per-view service of international
films starting in the fourth quarter this year.
Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures will be the
first Hollywood studio to offer content.
China’s state-backed National Film Capital, a
media and entertainment fund, announced
it will raise RMB 2 billion ($314 million) with
help from the Industrial and Commercial
Bank of China to co-produce movies with US
filmmakers.
