be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

But- meaning to do the opposite of what was previously just stated.

you’ve been overburdened with the amount of sin within you? What do you do
when you may not know where to begin?
We are to be doers of the word. This is our standard.

intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24For he looks at himself and goes away
and at once forgets what he was like.
James 1:23-24 ESV
For if anyone – meaning this is not speaking on someone in particular but is
speaking of any who meet these criteria
o Here’s the criteria
1. He is a hearer of the word
2. And is not a doer
o So James uses an analogy to depict this kind of man.
He is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror - this
word in the Greek: katanoeō, kat-an-o-eh’-o
