Newsletter
June 2016
Principal’s Message
June has now arrived and we are seeing the beautiful summer weather. We have had a busy year of
great events and exceptional education. South Shore continues to be a school with exemplary
educational programming, amazing artistic projects, and superb sports events. Our students have
worked hard throughout the school year and have learned more about their subjects and have
developed many more skills. Thank you for helping us to shape your child’s future. Your support and
care have helped the children to do and be their very best.
To keep minds on throughout the summer, have your children read on a daily basis. Find a great
book that may be above their reading level and read aloud to them; it may activate their interest in
reading similar books or provoke some wonderful conversation. While travelling this summer perhaps
you might play math games during the journey, calculating the distance from one town to the next,
budgeting spending money for their souvenirs or identifying shapes in the landscape. Cards are
always a great way to practice math. Word games like Scrabble or Hangman are fun.
Learning is everywhere. Don’t forget to stay active with whatever you do: walking, biking, swimming,
soccer, baseball, Frisbee, kite-flying. There are endless possibilities.
Have a wonderful summer. Enjoy your family. Stay safe. We will see you again in September.
The first day of school is September 6th.
One Final Message
As of September 2016 South Shore Education Centre will have a new principal, Mr. Jim
Burrows. I have been assigned as the principal for Mapleridge Public School. Throughout
these past 3 years I have had the honour and privilege of working with you and your children.
I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my experiences at South Shore. I wish you and your children
all the best in their future educational adventures.
To quote a famous Disney character:
“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
Winnie the Pooh
We are finally now warming up and able to wear lighter clothing. Our Dress Code is still in
effect. This code states that: Bottoms of tops must overlap the tops of bottoms.
Tops must cover both shoulders by three finger widths.
Skirts and shorts must be longer than fingertips.
Clothing must cover underwear.
Thank you
