happy 2015! - Hanna Winery

winter edition 2015
happy 2015!
By Chris Hanna
While outside accolades are important, what’s more
important is what you, our wine club members, think
about our wines. You’ve decided for yourselves that
our wines are delicious, and these scores and medals
only echo your sentiments. We thank you for your
loyalty to HANNA, and we’ll continue to work hard
to make the wines you want to drink.
Cheers!
Here at HANNA, we’ve started the New Year with a
bang, with fabulous scores and gold medals. The Wine
Advocate’s Robert Parker, arguably the most influential
wine critic in the world, recently raved about a number
of HANNA wines. He
particularly loved our
newest
wine
called
Alchimie, a Bordeaux
blend from our Alexander Valley vineyard. Parker gave
it 93 points, stating “Purity, depth and ripeness make for
a wine to drink now, as well as over the next decade or
more. This is a winner!” He was similarly impressed
with our 2012 Bismark Cabernet Sauvignon, giving it
92+ points: “Full bodied with sweet tannin, there is not
a hard edge to be found in this concentrated, full bodied,
impressive Cabernet Sauvignon.” Finally, he gave our
2013 Elias Pinot Noir 91 points, calling it “another
excellent wine from HANNA.”
The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition results just
came out, and HANNA
again scored well. Our
2012 Elias Chardonnay
received a double gold, as
did our 2013 Bismark Zinfandel, and our 2012 Alexander
Valley Cabernet Sauvignon also received a gold medal.

2013 HANNA russian river valley sauvignon blanc
We grow and vinify our Sauvignon Blanc to be fresh, vibrant, and evocative of the grapes themselves and we have chosen a
tin lined screwcap closure for its unsurpassed ability to retain our wine’s exuberance. Our 2013 Sauvignon Blanc is vibrant

It’s wild mushroom season here in Sonoma County. I can’t
think of anything more delicious than pairing savory pork
and earthy mushrooms with our juicy, deep flavored Bismark
Malbec. Enjoy!
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 shallots, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 pound wild mushrooms, such as chanterelles, porcinis,
shiitakes, or creminis, sliced
½ teaspoon fresh thyme
1 (2-pound) center-cut boneless pork loin roast, butterflied
Heat 2 tablespoons of the oil in a large skillet over medium
heat. Add shallots and cook until translucent, about five
minutes. Add garlic and stir until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
Add mushrooms and cook, stirring, until they start to brown
and release their liquid, 3 to 5 minutes. Add thyme, salt and
pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let cool.
Preheat the oven to 350° F. Season pork all over with 1
teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon pepper. Open the pork loin like
a book, and spread cooled mushroom mixture evenly over
pork, leaving a border around the edges. Roll up or fold in
half like a book and tie pork at 1-inch intervals with kitchen
twine.
Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large skillet over medium-high
heat. Add pork, seam side down, and brown for 3 to 4
minutes, then brown the remaining sides and ends.
Transfer pork to a roasting pan and roast until an
instant-read thermometer inserted into thickest part reads
150°F, 1 to 1 ¼ hours. Let pork rest for 10 minutes, then cut
into thick slices and serve.
