are school appropriate! Be prepared to share.
Example: Thousands of
fans planned to converge on
Times Square when they
heard a rumor that the
members of One Direction
would be there
unannounced.
DIGRESSION
(DIH-GRESH-UHN)
The professor was supposed to
be talking about neuroscience,
but his digression was so
longwinded that no one could
remember the original subject of
the lecture.
Digression (n.): the act of
deviating from the main topic.
Synonyms:
Antonyms:
PLEASE REPEAT AFTER ME…
•The definition of the word digression is
the act of deviating from the main topic.

Who do you know that digresses the most? Do you enjoy these
digressions, or do you wish the person would just stay on topic?
Explain! Please make sure that you are using the vocab word, and
that all answers are school appropriate! Be prepared to share.
Example: Miss Craig, my
department head, is a master
of digression. Her capricious
nature allows her to easily
jump from one subject to the
next without a true transition
in between. The asides are
often entertaining.
Please repeat
after me…
DISDAIN
(DIS-DEYN)
The freshmen on the bus disdained the seniors because the
older kids always felt like they had a right to pick on the
younger ones.
DISDAIN (N.): A FEELING OF
SCORN OR CONTEMPT
Synonyms:
Antonyms:
PLEASE REPEAT AFTER ME…
The definition of the word disdain is a
feeling of scorn or contempt.
WARM-UP
Please give examples of two things that you disdain, or feel true contempt
toward. These should not be people per say, but situations or things. Also, tell
me why! Please be sure to use the vocab word in your response, and polite,
school appropriate answers only. Be prepared to share.
Example: I disdain getting on
the Septa bus by myself for a
long ride filled with kids/people
who do not seem to have any
regard for human existence.
Throwing items, spitting, cursing,
spewing racial slurs, taking
multiple seats, and talking back
to authority figures all are
included in that list of things that
I disdain because I find them
rude and disgraceful.
