FIRST QUARTER 2016-2017 PTO MEETING
AUGUST 23, 2016 @ 6:30PM
Ashley welcomed everyone. She explained about what PTO is and what North
PTO does for our school
The Board was introduced:

OPENING: An icebreaker game was played with the parents/teachers by them
introducing themselves with saying their names and a word that relates to them
that begins with the same letter as their first names.
Financial Report: The executive board reviewed the budget at their meeting
before the public meeting. There are a few details to tidy up before the report
can be presented to the public. Right now there is $11, 974.23 in the PTO budget.
$50 gift cards were given to the teachers at Open House and one $200 gift card
was given for supplies to be purchased for the work room.
RECAP:
Open House: Successful! DQ donated the ice cream. $50 gift cards were given to
the teachers and specials.
Cape Splash: 465 total attended: 212 adults, 253 children. Per Dr. McClard there
has been question of changing to a different activity such as bowling night due to
legality reasons that could arise at the Cape Splash event.
Upcoming events:
 Mum/fall fundraiser: order forms need to be turned in by Thursday,
September 8th, turn in numbers to JoAnn’s Greenhouse by
September 12th, mums will be delivered September 16th, help needed
from 12-2:30 for unloading and 3:30-6:30 for pick-up. Gift card
prizes to Toys R Us will be awarded for top 4 sellers: 1st- $100, 2nd $75, 3rd - $50 and 4th - $25. Price went up from $3.60 to $3.75 is our
cost. Charging $7 or 3/$20. We use JoAnn’s Greenhouse. Last year
we sold 1,830 mums. Cristal will call APO service fraternity to see if
they can help with unloading and distribution.
 Parent/Teacher Conferences: Jodie will chair. Dates are Thursday,
September 29th and Tuesday, October 4th. PTO provides main dish.
Volunteers and parents will be asked to bring sides.
 Kindergartener’s field trip to Beggs family farm: PTO funds this trip
and shirts the students wear. Shirts will be painted again this year
for them to wear. Date pending to work on shirts; volunteers will be
needed to help Miss Hopson. Date of trip is October 14th.
 Fire Safety Week: Assembly date is October 6th. PTO will contact
Fruitland Fire Department/State Highway Patrol/Etc. Mr. James has
volunteered to dress in the Smokey the Bear costume.
 Fall Community Give Back Event: Ideas are needed. It was decided
that PTO will no longer hold the Expo. Ashley feels we can budget in
money for the backpack program. In the Spring, PTO gives $10 gift
cards for the book fair to the students in the backpack program.
Calling food truck to see if they will give back to the school if they are
able to come to the Back to School Night.
Committees Needed For: A sign-up form is on the table:
 Annual Family FUNdraiser, Saturday, March 4. Help is needed to plan and
organize this event. Suggestion was made to make the booklet smaller to
help cut cost. A donation letter will be sent home soon. Lots of donations
are needed for the Silent Auction. Special planning meetings will be held,
TBD.
 Teacher Appreciation Week: Going to be celebrated Quarterly this school
year. Wednesdays were suggested by teachers as a good day for food to be
brought in.
 5th Grade Recognition and Farewell Night is Thursday, May 18th, and Jen
Carouthers will chair and Jennifer York will co-chair this event. Their vision
is to have a graduation style ceremony. Volunteers are needed to help.
Planning meetings will be announced.
 Track & Field Day is Friday, May 12th. Ashley explained what PTO has at
Play Day for the students and parents. It was suggested to shop for hair
paint after Halloween when it is on sale.
NOTES FROM DR MCCLARD:
 Back to School Night will be August 31st from 5:30-6:30; “Fall Family Fun
Night” style. There will be different stations students can participate in.
There will be a Google calendar training session for parents to attend.
Ashley will check on food trucks and Kona Ice.
 Mr. Moore will hold tryouts soon for the Select Choir.
 Student Leadership Committee will replace STUCO. It will be structured for
giving back to school and the community. There will be strict requirements
for students to be considered for this club.
 STEM club: there will be a drawing for participants.
 New teachers: Mrs. Roberts 4th grade. Mr. James 5th grade. Mrs. Webb and
Ms. Knuckle for reading.
 Grandparent’s Lunch Bunch is September 1st.
Attendance Winners: Ms. Bennett’s class won the class treat. Ms. Webb won a
$10 gift card for the teacher attendance and Chauntel Knudson won the parent
attendance $10 gift card.
