In life we can't just memorize everything and survive.
The same goes for calculus.
Calculus is all about applying what we know from geometry and algebra, along with other concepts and seeing what we can come up with.
With that being said, let us look at this generalization for what we did yesterday.

Ok, so yesterday the region we were working with always revolved around its own edge, so we were revolving a rectangle what once the revolution was complete yielded a solid disc, thus the disc method.
Now, what if the line we revolve around is not an edge of the region?....Will we have a solid disc?...
What now?

We have a disc. The volume we can see is the outer volume minus the inner volume.
