OLID bidding pushed the average
to $1106 at the inaugural soft
rolling skin (SRS) Merino multivendor ram sale at “Severn Park”,
Cooma, on Wednesday last week.
Eight studs offered 67 rams, of which
54 sold to a top of $2200.
It wasn’t until the last draft of six
Glenwood rams that the top price was
achieved, with Jock Allen, “Kiah Lake”,
Berridale, snapping up the sire.
Mr Allen said he hadn’t planned on
buying any rams, but couldn’t go past
the beautiful long staple, bright wool
and poll factor of his purchase.
“He’s quite hard to fault,” he said.
The ram had a 17.9-micron fibre
diameter (FD), with a 2.8-micron
standard deviation (SD), 15.7 per cent
coefficient of variation (CV) and
99.9pc comfort factor (CF).
It also had Australian Sheep Breeding
Values (ASBVs) of 2.7 for yearling
weight, 0.2 for yearling fat and 0.5 for
yearling eye muscle depth.
Glenwood principals, Norm and Pip
Smith, Wellington, sold all six of their
rams for a $1367 average.
