Selig Announces Retirement Taylor to Partner

The Bulletin
Volume 134
October 25 to November 7, 2015
Selig Announces Retirement
With very little fanfare, Bob Selig
announced his retirement Oct. 19.
Having stepped in 2 years ago on
a temporary basis when the need
arose, Selig was last year appointed by the Board to continue
as President/CEO after a nationwide search. Focusing on the
business and financial challenges
and opportunities, Bob’s contributions have left the organization in good stead.
Selig’s accomplishments include the successful renegotiation of Taylor’s long-term debt, resulting in considerable annual savings. The sale of our satellite communities in Moultonborough and Sandwich freed up resources best put to use elsewhere at Taylor Community. Opechee Harbor, Taylor’s state-of-the-art memory
care unit, was opened and is at full occupancy. Significant renovations and improvements have been completed, occupancy is up, and many cultural and wellness opportunities have been added to benefit all. Bob
will continue his relationship with Taylor as Vice Chair
of the Board of Trustees.
Selig began as President/CEO with this quote, “We will
work together to ensure that Taylor continues to be the
best continuing care retirement community in New
Hampshire and beyond.” Under his guidance we have
done just that. And we are! Best wishes, Bob.
Michael Flaherty Becomes Taylor’s
New Executive Director
Michael Flaherty, Taylor’s current Administrator, has
been chosen to fill the position of Executive Director beginning November 2. Chosen from a large field of candidates, Flaherty has decades of experience in the healthcare field, and has held leadership positions in several
senior care organizations. He has a successful history of
establishing, growing and managing top performing
teams and a proven record of accomplishment.
Michael received his BA in Speech Communications from
Boston College, an MBA and an MHA from Suffolk University and a Graduate Certificate in Comparative Public
Health Policy from the Institute of Public Administration at
Trinity University in Dublin, Ireland.
“Taylor Community is an asset to the Lakes Region and
to New Hampshire. It is such an honor to be entrusted
with the leadership of this community and to be able work
with such a great staff and such a welcoming group of
residents and families,” said Flaherty. “I am both excited
and energized to get started.”

Taylor to Partner with LCS
Taylor’s Board of Trustees has entered into a management agreement with Life Care Services (LCS) to
manage the operations of the organization. Continuity of management, a primary concern of the Board,
is now secure. Board members met extensively with
LCS and toured several facilities, and they are very
pleased with all they have seen. LCS has a proven
track record of superior service to seniors throughout
the United States.
Established in 1971, LCS is a leading developer and
manager of continuing care retirement communities,
currently serving nearly 34,000 seniors in 132 managed communities. Beginning next month, Taylor
has contracted with LCS for the management of Taylor Community.
Jeanne Kinnard, Vice President and Director of Operations Management, and Karen Hogan, Vice President and Senior Director of Marketing & Sales, introduced themselves and LCS to staff and residents at
Woodside October 19. Both hail from the northeast,
and have many years experience with the company.
Jeanne will be responsible for supervising the positions of Executive Director and Administrator and
also serve as the main contact for the Board of Trustees; Karen’s focus will be the oversight of the Marketing & Sales group.
Under contract with LCS, Taylor’s Board of Trustees
will maintain policy, direction and control of Taylor
Community. The Executive Director and Administrator will report to LCS, although still answer to the Board; all other staff
will continue under the direction
of Taylor. LCS has interviewed
30+ candidates for the Executive
Director position, ultimately selecting Michael Flaherty, our current Administrator, as the best
person for the job.
(cont. page 2)
New Executive Director
Michael Flaherty
Page 2
Taylor to Partner with LCS
(continued from page 1)
This selection was unanimously approved by the
Board at their meeting October 19.
The management arm of a family of six companies,
LCS’s passion is to serve seniors. Their mission,
which aligns well with Taylor’s, is accomplished
through strict adherence to the LCS Principles:
 Serve the customer first and foremost
 Deal honestly and fairly with integrity and
openness
 Maintain a long-term perspective
 Be Diligent and Persevering
 Be Interconnected and Interdependent
Taylor will recognize many benefits through partnership with LCS. As a leader in professional management, LCS brings many assets and resources to the
table. Not only will Taylor recognize cost savings via
group purchasing and insurance programs, we will
also gain confidence from our lenders in our management of long-term debts. Most importantly, continuity
of executive leadership is assured. Peer-to-peer networking for leadership will be available and ongoing
state-of-the-art training will be provided to staff. Win Win!!
To our residents and staff, we would like to assure
you that there will be NO CHANGE in services with
the arrival of LCS, and they will continue working
within our current budget. And again, Taylor staff,
with the exception of Executive Director and Administrator, will continue in the employ of Taylor.
Experts will be on board soon to assess operations,
conduct a Resident Survey, and prepare a business
plan to be presented to the Board of Trustees in January. Stay tuned; we will keep you apprised of developments as they unfold.

Welcome New Staff
John Carpenter, staff accountant, hails from Newton, KS and attended Long Island University, graduating with a B.S. degree in Accounting/Business Administration. He has worked as a mate on sports
fishing yachts in Florida and Long Island. John enjoys camping with his family – which includes two
sons, ages 15 and 13 – on the Allagash Wilderness
Waterway in Northern Maine. He follows the Kansas
City Chiefs and the Royals.
Jessica Fralic, LNA, received her license through
the American Red Cross and did her clinicals at the
Peabody Home in Franklin. Her favorite thing to do
is spend time with her three wonderful children and
spend as much time as possible at the ocean. She
would love to travel in the future.
Cynthia Warren, Belmont, joins us as LNA. She attended Keiser College in St. Petersburg, FL. She
recently took care of a woman with Friedreich’s
Ataxia, an inherited disease that causes progressive
damage to the nervous system. She has a 7-yearold stepdaughter, Kiralee, and a pit bull named Nala.
The three of them enjoy taking walks together and
playing outside.
Taylor Playreaders Ride Again!
On November 16 at 3:00pm, the
Taylor Playreaders will present their
2015 production, The Devil and
Daniel Webster by Steven Vincent
Benet. “Staged” in Woodside, but
set in Cross Corners, NH in 1841,
the play, originally an opera, tells
the story of Jabez Stone (Jim Brewer), a prosperous
young farmer and State Senator, who has just married
his childhood sweetheart, Mary (Doris Citron). It is fortunate that the principal guest, Secretary of State
Daniel Webster (Allan Clemow), is present because
the wedding reception is terrorized by the arrival of
Scratch (Charlie Coulter), whose dastardly purpose is
detected by the Fiddler (Peg Petrie). Scratch has
come to collect Jabez’s soul which he signed away in
order to achieve his prosperity. Webster defends Jabez and calls for a trial, which is presided over by the
fearsome Judge Hathorne (Barbara Harris) and his
“ominous” clerk (Bev Martin, also “the Voice of the
Moth”) whom Scratch has summoned from hell along
with a bloodthirsty jury. Webster, the granite-spined,
stands alone against this evil array.
Carolyn Parker maintains the narrative while Lois Lunetta prompts and understudies all parts. Harking
back to its operatic past, The Devil and Daniel Webster
could use a huge cast. Hence the eight Playreaders
do triple duty: handling their own roles, speaking in a
variety of anonymous voices and joining in a chorus
that is first citizens and later a jury. Come and be entertained while finding out why New Hampshire is
really such a good place to live.
You won’t want to miss this!
Welcome to Taylor Community!
