You may apply for Student Housing before being accepted into a Medicine Hat College or Medicine Hat College Brooks Campus program. We suggest that you apply as soon as possible. 2. Apprentice students may apply for Student Housing as soon as they receive training notification for an approved apprentice program. 3. An application/security deposit fee of $300 must accompany your application form. 4. Acceptances will start in June for the Fall Semester and in December for the Winter Semester. WITHDRAWING A RESIDENCE APPLICATION OR CANCELLING AN ACCEPTED RESIDENCE APPLICATION 5. The application/security deposit fee will be refunded if you are waitlisted and want to withdraw your application or if you are not accepted to a program. It will be your responsibility to contact the Student Housing Office if you want to withdraw your application or cancel an accepted application, either in writing to: MHC Student Housing, 13A Primrose Drive SE., Medicine Hat, AB, T1B 2C4, by phone: (403) 529-3820 or by fax (403) 529-9305. 6. For Fall Applicants Continuing into Winter Semester a). If an accepted Student Housing application for Fall is cancelled prior to July 1st or an accepted Student Housing application is cancelled for Winter prior to December 1st, the student will receive a full refund of his/her application/security deposit fee. b). A student who cancels his/her accepted application after July 1st, but before August 1st. for the Fall semester will receive a full refund minus a service fee of $50. c). The entire application/security deposit fee of $300 will be retained if the accepted application is cancelled after August 1st. for the Fall semester or after December 1st for the Winter semester. For Winter Applicants a). A new student who applies after Dec. 1st., and cancels his/her application before Dec. 15th, will receive a full refund minus a service fee of $50. b). The entire application/security deposit fee of $300 will be retained if a new student who applies after December 1st. cancels his/her application after Dec. 15th. For Spring/Summer and Apprentice Applications a). You will receive a full refund if you are an accepted resident applicant withdrawing your application two weeks prior to your move in date. b). You will receive a $150 refund if you are an accepted resident applicant withdrawing your application less than two weeks prior to your move-in date. c). You will receive no refund if you are an accepted resident applicant who is a now show on move in day and have not provided prior notification of withdrawal. 7. A resident who moves out of Student Housing will receive their $300 application/security deposit fee less any damages and/or cleaning fees incurred (please refer to the Student Housing Handbook under Application/Security Deposit Refund Schedule). 8. To confirm an acceptance, the entire Fall semester’s Student Housing fees must be paid in full by the 1st. day of August. Students continuing into the Winter semester must pay their Winter semester rent by December 1st. TERMINATION OF STUDENT HOUSING RENTAL AGREEMENT 9. a). Students entering Student Housing in the fall semester must sign a rental agreement for the fall and winter semester. Students may cancel the winter portion of the rental agreement by December 1 with no penalty. Students entering 2 Student Housing in the winter semester must sign a rental agreement for the winter semester. Residents will not be entitled to rent refunds should they decide to terminate their rental agreement. b). 10. Students entering Student Housing for the Spring/Summer semester must sign a minimum of a one months lease. Students wishing to terminate their lease may do so by giving thirty (30) days notice. A refund will be issued for the remaining rent. Failure to give thirty days notice will result in the loss of one month’s rent. The WAITLISTED STUDENTS need to notify the Student Housing Office within the first two (2) weeks after fall classes start to advise whether they would like to remain on the waitlist for fall; have their application transferred to the winter semester or their $300 application/security deposit fee refunded. Students who do not notify the Student Housing Office by mid September will automatically have their name taken off the waitlist and their $300 will be refunded. 11. Parking for Medicine Hat College Student Housing is $100 for each semester. Parking for Apprentices is $55 for an 8 week period. Cars without the approved parking stickers will be subject to municipal parking tickets and may be towed at the owners expense and liability. Student Housing parking tags do not allow students to park in other College lots. Guest parking is available on Primrose Drive. Parking at the Medicine Hat College Brooks Campus Student Housing is FREE. 12. A $30 Residence Life fee will be billed to residents for each semester. This fee is payable with rent and parking. The residence life fee covers activities for the residents throughout the year. This fee is a NON-REFUNDABLE FEE. GOLFVIEW RESIDENCE: consists of forty eight, 4 bedroom townhouse style units and one, 3 bedroom unit that can accommodate students with mobility impairment. All units are air-conditioned. There are 146 regular bedrooms and 49 large bedrooms. The large bedrooms are assigned on a first come first served basis. Furniture and Equipment: (all units are air conditioned) Kitchen: table & chairs, ample cupboard space, fridge, self-cleaning oven, microwave, freezer, garbage can. Living Room: sofa, 2 chairs, 2 end tables, lamp & swag lamp, 25” TV and TV stand. Bedrooms: extra long single bed (non-allergenic), study desk & chair, bookshelf, waste paper basket, shelving in closet. Full Basement: washer and dryer (coin free), workbench. Misc.: vacuum cleaner, snow shovel, broom & dust pan, 1 plunger, toilet bowl brush, fire extinguisher, boot mat. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ COULEEVIEW RESIDENCE : consists of twenty four, 4 bedroom front/back split style units, and two, 2 bedroom units that can accommodate students with mobility impairment. There are 100 regular bedrooms. Furniture and Equipment: (all units are air conditioned) Kitchen: table & chairs, ample cupboard space, fridge, self-cleaning oven, microwave, garbage can. Living Room: sofa, 1 chair, 1 end table, 25” TV and TV stand. Bedrooms: extra long single mates bed, study desk & chair, wardrobe closet with shelving, waste paper basket. Utility Room: washer/dryer (coin free), freezer, crawl space for storage Misc.: vacuum cleaner, snow shovel, broom and dust pan, 1 plunger, toilet bowl brushes, fire extinguisher. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ BROOKS RESIDENCE – Brooks Campus: consists of 8, four bedroom front/back split style units. There are 32 regular bedrooms. Furniture and Equipment: same as Couleeview Residence (above) NOTE: Tenants must supply their own bedding (extra long single sheets) linens, pillows, dishes, pots, pans, cutlery and cooking utensils. The MHC Student Housing provides a Community Room that is located in the Golfview Residence. It offers a computer lab with internet access, games room, TV room equipped with DVD and high-fi surround sound. The Community Room is also used for meetings and other social activities that are organized for the residents. Telephone and Cable TV jacks are located in each bedroom. Residents must arrange for their own phone and Internet hookup through local service providers.. 3
