Ottawa
“Technically Beautiful”
Canada's capital is a city of museums, pageantry and culture reflective of the origins of its Native and then British
founders. Founded in 1826 as Bytown and incorporated as "Ottawa" in 1855, the city has evolved into the political
and technological centre of Canada. The name "Ottawa" is derived from the Algonquin word adawe, meaning "to
trade". Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley were home to the Algonquin people prior to the arrival of Europeans during
the fur and subsequent lumber trade eras. Ottawa has become a multicultural - bilingual city with a diverse
population.
Famous sights include Parliament Hill, Sparks Street, Rideau Hall, Laurier House, Rideau Canal, and the Agricultural
Experimental Farm. Rich in history the city abounds with educational museums, which range from the Museum of
Science & Technology, the third largest War Museum the National Art Gallery of Canada and the unique Museum of
Civilization were its columns are in the shape of upside down canoe paddles “meaning” we come in peace and
friendship, consistent with the name Ottawa and its origins “.
