Varsity Head Coach: Katie Johnson Email: [email protected] What is summer conditioning? Summer conditioning is a mix of conditioning and skill sessions which will be held two-three times a week for the JV and Varsity teams. JV and Varsity teams will be trained by Titus Sports Academy. Any player that participates in Titus training will be required to pay the fee set by Titus. Girls that do not participate in Titus training may attend the open gym sessions following the Titus sessions. All returning players are encouraged to attend Titus training sessions. For more information on FSUS Titus training please contact Coach Johnson. Any girls interested in trying out for the JV or Varsity teams are welcome to attend Titus and open gym. Middle school will not have designated summer conditioning. When is summer conditioning? The summer schedule will be posted to Blackboard. Please check Blackboard frequently, as the schedule is subject to change and is where any and all schedule changes will be posted. Do players have to attend summer conditioning? Summer conditioning is not mandatory. The coaching staff understands that families plan vacations, players may be practicing for nationals or attending other camps during the summer months, but players are encouraged to attend as many summer sessions as possible. It not only enables players to gain exposure and showcase their abilities to the coaching staff, but will also help to hone their skills for tryouts and play with their potential teammates. All returning players are EXPECTED (but not required) to attend. What if my child has to miss a summer conditioning session? If your child will be late or absent from a summer conditioning session, please email Coach Johnson as far in advance as possible. If a player knows of any upcoming vacations, camps, etc., please notify Coach Johnson with the dates as far in advance as possible. What is summer league? Summer league is held at Prostyle Volleyball Academy. It provides an opportunity for local JV and Varsity competition to compete once a week. The league will finish with a tournament at the end of June. Most local high schools compete in the league. Both JV and Varsity will participate in the Prostyle Summer League. The league schedule will be posted on Blackboard. Who can attend summer league? Any player who wishes to try out for JV or Varsity will be eligible to participate in league play. If players intend to play in the Prostyle League, they will need to fill out the league waiver (which will be available on Blackboard) and should email Coach Johnson. If a player cannot attend, they should also email Coach Johnson so the coaching staff may plan the lineups accordingly. Please note, just because a player participates in summer league with either the JV or Varsity team, IT DOES NOT GUARANTEE THE PLAYER A SPOT ON THE ROSTER IN THE FALL! Players may play positions they do not regularly play. It DOES NOT mean they will play that position in the fall. Summer league is used for coaches to work on different line ups, observe the abilities of each player, develop team chemistry, and for the team to play local competition. Coaches will do their best to play each child during league play; however, if 30 players show up to league, it will prove difficult to play every athlete in a match. Playing time may not be equal and some players may not have a chance to play during the match. If a parent wishes to discuss any issues regarding playing time for league play, they should contact Coach Johnson via email. The coaching staff adheres to a 24 hour policy and will not discuss any matters at the gym or immediately following a match. Please remember it is summer league and not regular season. Will the teams be attending any camps this summer? Varsity will attend Tampa Camp July 21-24. All returning players are expected (but not required) to attend team camp. The coaching staff may ask JV players to attend Tampa Camp with the Varsity team. Please note that a camp invitation or attendance at team camp DOES NOT GUARANTEE THE PLAYER A SPOT ON THE ROSTER IN THE FALL! Middle School and JV camps will be held at Florida State University School July 1517. Please refer to Blackboard for camp information and registration form. How do we pay for camp? Varsity: Players will need to pay for camp online at the time of registration or however Tampa University requests payment; unless otherwise discussed with Coach Johnson. JV: Players will need to mail check or cash along with registration form to FSUS. Please notify Coach Johnson via email once registration form has been sent. Please refer to Blackboard for form. Who can try out for the team? All Florida High School students in grades 6th through 12th who are academically eligible, may try out for the team. What are the academic eligibility requirements to participate? Maintain a 2.0 Grade point average (per semester for middle school) cumulative for high school. How many players will each team have? This will depend on many different variables: the number of players that try out, skill level of the players trying out, and the coaching staff. Each team can have a maximum number of 15 players. What do I need to try out for the team? The following FHSAA forms are required before any student athlete may participate in tryouts: EL2 FHSAA Physical Form and EL3 Form. These forms can be found on the Florida High Athletics page on Blackboard and Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) web sites. No exceptions or substitutions of these forms are acceptable. Players will not be permitted to tryout without these forms. Please note makeup tryouts will not be granted for players who do not have paperwork at the time of tryouts. Players will need spandex or athletic shorts, kneepads, t-shirt, and athletic shoes at tryouts. When will tryouts be held? Middle School Tryouts: Saturday, August 20 from 8:30-10:00 AM JV Tryouts: Monday, August 1 from 5:30-7:30 PM Varsity Tryouts: Monday, August 1 from 7:00-9:00 PM Player will be expected to arrive 30 minutes early to process paperwork. Players will not be able to tryout if they do not have their physical or corresponding FHSAA forms. (There is a link to all forms on Blackboard under FHSAA Forms) NO EXCEPTIONS OR MAKE-UP TRYOUTS will be granted to players who do not have the correct forms at the time of tryouts. When will teams be posted? The coaching staff will post the teams in the lobby immediately following tryouts. The teams will also be posted to Blackboard the evening of tryouts. If a player does not make the team and wishes to discuss the decision with the coach, an email should be sent to [email protected]. The coaching staff will not discuss decisions if approached at the gym. What equipment do the girls need? If your daughter makes a team, a list of all required gear and prices will be made available to parents. All gear will be ordered through Elite Sporting Goods. Coaches will provide jerseys, order practice t-shirts, shoes, spandex, and socks. Any additional equipment needed (i.e ankle braces, etc.) is the players’ responsibility to obtain. ALL players will be required to wear the designated gear. How do we pay for gear? In the first booster meeting of the year, the Booster Club President will talk about our various fundraisers. Players may sell signs to cover the cost of gear. More information can be found on Blackboard under the Fundraising tab.
