05/05/17 Dear Reception Parents, Each week you will find our ‘Dear Parents’ in your child’s book-bag, on our notice board outside the classroom and on our website: www.churchwoodprimaryacademy.org.uk Our Focus... This week our focus book has been ‘Dear Zoo’ and in our group reading sessions we have been looking at Animal Atlases. We have been talking about how some books are story books and some are information books. In phonics we are going back over all the sounds we have learnt, learning some new words and practising forming our letters carefully-starting them on the line, sitting them on the line and keeping them as small as we can. In Maths we have been learning about the concept ‘heavy’. We have learnt that we use scales to measure how heavy things are and we have been comparing objects to find out which are the heaviest. At home you can... • Remind your child that first thing in the morning they are not allowed to use the outdoor play equipment. This includes the big slide, the mud pit and the scramble net. They are only to be used when supervised by academy staff- please support us with this. • Have a go at the homework challenge on a separate page. Encourage your child to draw and together label the objects you can find at home that are heavy or not heavy (light). We would like... • To say well done to Leo, Maddy, Rhys and Riley who have read five times or more at home since last Friday. They will be wearing a reading medal today and getting a prize to take home! • To invite all the children to bring in one soft toy animal to play with in our role-play vet’s. We will photograph and label the toys so that we know whose is whose and they can stay at school for the whole term if your child would like them to. Please remember... • To sign up for the afternoon that suits you best to come in for our ‘Next Step Stay and Play’ sessions on the week commencing Monday 15th May. Please speak to one of us if you are going to have trouble making those dates and we can arrange a suitable time for you. • To send your child into school with a jacket or coat every day while the weather is very changeable- we like to get outside whatever the weather and have limited waterproof spares. Have a lovely weekend! from all the Reception Team. We have learnt the sounds: ne The digraphs we have learnt are: The tricky words we have learnt are:
