Youth Enrichment
READING: Grades 1-3
Your child will enjoy a variety of fun, age, and skilled appropriate
activities to help reinforce and maintain reading fluency and retelling
skills. We will make connections and predictions to text. We will also
retell, work with story elements, and read for meaning. We will play
sight word games and read poetry to promote fluency skills. Students
will enjoy small and large group instruction for lots of opportunities to
reinforce their reading skills. Texts and activities will be differentiated

Students will enjoy a hands-on approach to building number sense through fun, age, and skill appropriate
activities including stories, games, small, and large instruction. Activities will include working with
number charts, composing/decomposing numbers, estimating, problem solving, and working with addition
facts. This course is designed for students looking to reinforce, and maintain math skills and number

MATH: Grades 6-8
Morning Sessions - A review of the major concepts and procedures in Math 6. Students will develop
arithmetic skills, work with fractions, decimals, percentages, area and perimeter, etc. Main focus: 6th grade
curriculum. This session is ideal for incoming 6th grade students who will be taking Advanced Math and
those hoping to place into Advanced Math in the fall. Instructor: Mr. Andress

OAKLAND SUMMER WRITER’S CAMP: Grades 5-8
The Oakland Summer Writer’s Camp is for those who love to write! Each day is filled with opportunities to
grow as a writer. Campers will learn about the craft of writing, including how to draft pieces and work with
fellow writers and teachers to find golden words and just right lines. Returning students will learn how to
add new layers to their writing, pushing it to the next level. Campers bring a lunch and enjoy time outside
each day to eat and get to know one another. The camp also includes a walking field trip through historic,
downtown Clarkston. Friends and family are invited to attend an end-of-camp celebration where students
share their writing as well as take home a published anthology of student work. There is a walking field
trip to downtown Clarkston on July 14 (first session) and July 28 (second session). The final day
of each camp (July 21 and Aug 4) is a celebration day when parents will come to hear students read

Language & Reading Intervention: Grades 1-12
Scientific Learning thru Fast ForWard ® LANGUAGE Series
Life Changing results in 4-12 weeks
Does your child struggle with reading, language or speech development, memory or attention? Clarkston
Community Schools if offering an innovative and powerful, research-based program Fast ForWord has
been proven to dramatically improve these skills. Fast ForWord is designed to make rapid and permanent
improvements in language and reading. It was developed in a university lab by neuroscientists and has
hundreds of research articles to substantiate its underling science and results. This is an online program
that students complete at home. A meet and greet will take place on Wednesday, June 28th at 10:00am at
the Clarkston CEC. Families will learn Fast ForWard procedures and other important program

Maker Girl Engineering Camp: Grades 4-6
Clarkston High School’s Young Women in Engineering and Maker Girl Mania present "Maker Girl Engineering
Camp"! It is designed to give young girls the opportunity to find out what engineering is all about! Camp
includes real women engineers as guest speakers, experiences using hand tools as well as focusing on
projects and problem solving. Participants will have a variety of team projects where they will have to use
engineering skills they learn to solve real-life, exciting challenges! Explorations may include discovering how
things work, building a toy, learning about solar power, coding and robotics. This camp will be packed full of
learning, teamwork and fun! Camp T-shirt included. Please include size when you register (YS, YM, YL, AS,

RUSH Robotics: Ages 8-14
Join Team RUSH (the High School Robotics Team), as we learn all about robotics through the NXT and
EV3 systems, including basic construction, programming and sensors, and how they are in your world
already! Advanced classes will foster more difficult challenges, problem solving and advanced
programming (MY BLOCKS specifically). The four day camp concludes with a contest between teams
and a presentation of the Team RUSH Robot. Camp T-shirt included. Please include size when you

Coding Camp for Beginners using Scratch: Ages 9-11
An opportunity for students to learn about coding (computer science) using Scratch. This camp will
introduce and help students build a basic understanding of coding. This will include the terminology and
processes to start thinking like a computer programmer. Students will complete group activities as well as
individual projects to produce a final game or animation. There will be a student showcase the last day of

Game Design and Animation using Scratch: Ages 9-12
This camp is designed for students to take their Scratch skills to the next level. Students will build upon the
concepts of Coding Camp for Beginners or CCS elementary coding clubs to develop a deeper knowledge and
understanding of coding (computer science) using Scratch. Students will work in collaborative groups as well as
independently to create interactive games or animations. There will be a student showcase the last day of

Musical Theatre Camp: Grades 3-8
Did you enjoy our May Musical Theatre Camp? In this camp we will learn voice and movement, play
theatre games, and learn choreography to some of our favorite Broadway musical songs. On Thursday,
we will perform for our parents and show them a little bit of what we learned! Campers will also receive a

This camp will delve a little deeper into theatre craft and acting. We never seem to have enough time to

THE CLARKSTON PROJECT: SUMMER BAND DAY CAMP
For students that are currently enrolled (or completed) 6-9th grade band
This summer camp allows young musicians the opportunity to meet friends and make music.
Students will meet in a Concert Band setting and in sectionals with the intent of reinforcing concepts
learned during the school year. Band Members should have at least 1 year of instruction in band.
Students from area schools are also welcome but must have the recommendation of their director.
Students will meet and work with Clarkston Band Directors and Clarkston “music mentors.” Students
should bring a packed lunch each day. A Camp Store will offer snacks and water for sale. On
Thursday, students will perform a concert for friends, family and the community. Prior to the concert,
the directors will host a cookout for all participants and their families. Attire: comfortable clothing that
is acceptable for school, however, for the Thursday concert wear khaki shorts and the camp t-shirt
that will be provided. **Second child discount is half price.**

The Artist's Apprentice - Kids' ART CAMP: Ages 6-13
Do you have an Art Kid? Art Camp for Kids is the place to be for your creative child this summer! This camp is
packed with all of the things your child loves to do. We will explore a wide range of art ventures, painting, multimedia, printmaking, manga, drawing, clay etc. Each day we will focus on 3 projects. Young artists will try each
one with a chance to complete previous projects throughout the day. A Gallery show will be extended to family
and friends on the final day of classes. Please bring a lunch everyday & wear clothes that are not precious, we
will get messy! Instructor: Pamela Palmer
**$50 material fee is payable to the instructor at the start of first day of class. This is separate than the

Clay Camp: Grades 1-12
This camp is designed for interested students to enjoy the ceramic process. Students will hand build
numerous clay projects from fun to functional. Monster mugs, animals and clay masks are examples of
creations your artist can build from earthenware. Various clays are part of the experience. For example,
white sculpture clay, air dry and terra cotta. Students will use a variety of finishes from glaze, paint and
marker on their work. Pieces made during camp will be picked up the following week if not taken home at
the end of the week. Campers should bring a small snack and water bottle. Instructor: Ms. Orahood

The Power of Drawing: Grades K-5
This summer “The Power of Drawing!” will take you to exciting places, spaces, and other worlds with
specialized, themed workshops. Children will explore fine art, graphic design, and cartooning, using
pastels, colored pencils, design and color markers to learn valuable foundational drawing
skills. Throughout the week, we will be drawing from each of these specialized
workshops: “Dinosaurs and Dragons”, “Video Game Pixel Block Characters”, “Africa’s Wildest
Creatures”, “Exploring Ocean Life”, and “Anime Cartooning” are some of the workshop themes
designed to thrill and motivate your child's sense of creative observation and enlightenment. All
students will build a weeklong portfolio and have the opportunity to exhibit and discuss their work at

Wolf Shop: Grade 8
Do you like to building things with your hands and want to learn how to create new projects this summer? Then
we have the summer camp for you! Wolf Shop will teach you shop and tool safety while building take home
projects. Along with our regular shop tools we will also be running a CNC carving machine to add details to
your projects. *This camp is for students entering the 8th grade only. A $20 material fee is included in the

Come out to Clarkston's new non-profit educational farm and experience
a week-long adventure! We will be animal tracking and growing fresh
organic food, creating nature inspired art and music as well as outdoor
science. There is never a dull moment with Camp Wild! At the
Clarkston Family Farm we learn, explore and play through hands-on
activities that engage critical thinking skills in all disciplines. Most
importantly, we will be having a ton of WILD outdoor fun. Space is very
limited so sign-up today to secure your pass to Camp Wild.

Babysitting Workshop: Ages 11-16
The purpose of this course to increase the availability of
young, adolescent/teen baby-sitters who can provide safe and
nurturing care for children. Basic child care as well as CPR
and First Aid are taught in the class. Students must attend
the full session and be at least 11 years old to receive their
Red Cross certification cards. Materials are included in the
class fee. Please bring a sack lunch to class.

Skull Island Camp: Ages 5-12
Voyage over to your own private island campground for a fun filled day of activities such as fishing,
paddle boating, swimming, zip lines, rock climbing wall, water trampolines, rope swings, and a variety of
other sporting activities. Find your own “pirate gold” in daily treasure and scavenger hunts! All food,
beverages, and supplies are included. Come walk the plank! Want to see Skull Island for yourself? Join
us at our Open House Weekend June 10th and 11th from 1:00-4:00pm. Camp Director: Kathryn

Drop off for Skull Island is at Walt’s Point marina on M-59 (therefore no need to pay $11 park fee). Drop
off and loading for boat departures begin approximately at 8:45am. Early care can be provided if needed
but must be rearranged prior to camp with the head camp director. If you think you might be running late
and could miss the boat, no worries! There is always someone at the marina to radio a boat for you; it’s
only a 3 minute boat ride away!

Little Medical School: Ages 6-10
Little Medical School provides hands-on activities that will actively engage children as they explore the
exciting world of medicine. Throughout the week, students will learn about the tools doctors use and
receive their own real stethoscope. They will also create many models, including a model of the brain,
spine, eye, bone and lung. Students will learn how to suture, role play a pretend surgery, and much more!
Children will graduate at the end of the week and receive a diploma. Children may bring a peanut free
snack and drink to class. *To participate children must have completed kindergarten. *An additional $35

Little Veterinarian School: Ages 6-10
Does your child love animals? Little Veterinarian School provides hands-on activities that will actively
engage children as they learn how to take care of a pet and explore the exciting world of
veterinarians. Throughout the week, students will use their stuffed dog and record in their journal how to
take an assessment of their pet, care for wounds and stitches, and give their pet medication. They will
learn what foods their pet needs in order to stay healthy, as well as those foods to avoid. Children will
also learn and discuss how antibodies recognize and kill germs that enter the body. They will graduate at
the end of the week and receive a diploma. Children may bring a peanut free snack and drink to class.

Youth Fitness
Dancing: Ages 3-11
Explore your favorite Disney Classics as we sing, act and dance to the favorite songs for our all-time favorite movies
such as Frozen, Tangled and many others. Students will learn ballet, jazz and hip hop moves throughout this
magical week of dance as they prepare for a small performance for their family to enjoy on the last day of camp.
Each day will include warm-ups, dance, crafts, a snack and movie clips. Groups will be divided by age and ability.
Rehearsal will be Friday from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. for all campers. The performance will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m.
Campers should bring a bag lunch. T-shirts will be provided. Instructor: Cynthia Bass

Princess and Fairy Camp: Ages 3-7
All the magic of the Fairytale Princesses come alive for your little girl. She will become a princess through
stories, crafts, dance and song. The Princesses will decorate their own tiaras and jewelry box as well as
create other crafts. Princesses will present a small performance on Thursday at 11:45 a.m. for family.

Your child will love this first introduction to sports such as soccer, football, volleyball, Tee-ball,

kicking and running, with easy-to-understand instructions to make this a positive, fun learning

Kiddie Sports Camp: Ages 4-6
Introduce your youngsters to the world of sports: Kids will be taught the basics of the following sports:

Mini Ballers Basketball Camp

Summer Cross Country: Grades 6-8
This is a great way to be introduced to cross country and for students to condition for other sports.
Practices involve running on the CHS campus and other activities such as a bike ride, swimming, and
games. Come dressed and ready to run. Please bring a water bottle and comfortable running shoes.
Students are not required to attend every session (but still are expected to pay full price). Students are

Cheer and Dance with Champion Force: Ages 4-15
Champion Force Athletic is a fun and exciting program for students at all cheer and dance experience
levels. Students will learn the core fundamentals of cheer including: cheers, chants, jumps, kicks, arm
motions, stunting, how to perform in front of an audience, and other necessary skills needed for junior
high and high school cheerleading programs. Cheerleaders will also learn a pom dance routine. Our

Junior Golf Camp: Ages 5-16
Come join us for lots of fun learning how to play golf. Our golf camp Instructor Brent Davies is a United
States Golf Teachers Federation Golf Teaching Professional and WGCA Professional Golf Coach. Brent
currently works as the swing coach for several young players, he competes on the Michigan/Ontario Golf
Teachers Tour and won the 2015 Canadian Golf Teachers Federation Canadian Cup. During this camp
students, will learn the fundamentals of the golf swing from proper set-up to transition, downswing to
impact to follow-through. The Tee shot, iron play, chipping and pitches around the green, short and long
putting, basic rules of the game and proper etiquette will also be taught by Coach Davies. All equipment
will be provided; students are welcome to bring their own clubs. This is a low-pressure fun way to
introduce your child or teen to the game of golf or to build on skills they may already have. *No camp on

GENERAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Register early! Many classes fill up quickly. Please register one week in advance so
we can make class enrollment decisions. Registrants are contacted ONLY if the class is full or cancelled. Clarkston Community
Education reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient registrations.
PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CLASSES. Pre-registration is required for all programs. NO drop-in registration
available.
NO REFUNDS issued for classes/events meeting once or twice unless requested two business days in advance of starting date.
INCLEMENT WEATHER/SCHOOL CLOSING: When Clarkston Community Schools are closed all Community Education classes will
be cancelled. We will attempt to make up all classes.
FUNDING: Community Enrichment programs are funded entirely by class fees. Any classes that do not meet the minimum
enrollment requirements may be canceled.
DROPS / REFUNDS: Please read carefully before registering for a class. Full refund will be given if class is canceled by the office.
Students requested refunds must be made prior to the beginning of the second class, regardless of attendance. All refunds will
be charged a $10 processing fee. The cost of materials cannot be refunded.
