April Newsletter - Fairmont Catholic School

According to Mrs. Nucilli, “The kindergarten class is busy performing "Good
Deeds" throughout Lent. They are hoping to share, pray and give more in
order to grow closer to Christ and to better understand what He has given
for us. We are starting a unit on eggs and new life. We will tie together science
and Religion with this unit. We will be performing a service project for the
Soup Opera when we make Easter treat bags to donate to
them. We also are practicing hard on our Stations songs and
look very forward to going to Living Stations on April 7th.
We've been very excited with the school wide "Read to Feed"
service project. We surpassed our goal and are hoping to raise
enough funds to add a pig to our donations!!”

Independent Reading through
the Accelerated Reading Program has been the highlight of
Mrs. Amiano’s 1st Grade
Classroom since January! The
class loves the challenge of their book tests!
As part of their current Science unit, the
students recently designed their own insects
& camouflaged them in various spots in the
classroom. Kindergarteners came for a visit
& enjoyed the "buggy hunt"! If you should
stop by for a 1st Grade visit, you will soon
realize adjectives are also the focus in class.
Each student is referred to by his/her describing name such as," Happy Hannah "or
"Kind Kevin".
Señorita Garcia has been working hard with the
5th & 6th Grade Spanish students researching
Spanish speaking countries in Central & South
America for our International Fair. Some made
crafts inspired by the culture of the country or
foods that originate in those regions. The
students created information boards
for the countries, which all the middle
schoolers were able to "visit" with their
"passports" to learn more about each
place.
The Robotics team worked so hard preparing for
their March 25th competition! Winners at the
Robo Expo were in Sumo, 1st Landon Frosch &
3rd Aiden Arcure & Landon Frosch. In Jousting,
3rd Jakson Morgan. Other participants included:
Carmella Lilly, Aidan Smith, Erin Frosch, Dominic
Fantasia, Alex Naternicola, Colin Walker, Cameron
Harley, Kya Hardy, & Angelina Gomez.
Congrats to the both Robotics teams
for all their dedication and hard
work. The Teams would like to extend
their gratitude & appreciation for
support from the school & our parents.

~Greetings from Mrs. Childers~
Happy Spring from the 5th grade! Our Heifer International Project got off to a great start! We have
already exceeded our goal buying a goat and a flock
of chickens. Thanks so much for helping my classroom meet such an important purchase for a deserving
family! We have been working hard in all classes with
Geometry and fractions this past
month. We have even made Tessellations with the 5th and 8th grades.
Keep an eye on my calendar for the
daily assignments.
Mrs. Bee & the Fourth Grade have had a year
full of many activities! Students enjoyed
creating a class newspaper including current
events, sports, puzzles, & comics. After reading
a story about Amelia Earhart & Eleanor
Roosevelt, they built model planes and automobiles from
Lego blocks. In their writing journals, they added
entries such as personal journals of vacations or trips,
poems, and reports of famous people. Religion classes
have been attending Stations of the Cross, as well as
compiling their own booklet as a means of reflecting on
Jesus' passion & death.
According to Mrs. Leech, 2nd Grade has been busy!
We are learning how to write in cursive &
soon, all of our school work will be done
strictly in cursive! Some of the letters are
tricky for us but with practice, we will be
experts in no time! We have also learned
how to tell time. We have switched from Science to
Social Studies & are learning all about our government, we even watched the Presidential Inauguration! We learned all about Martin Luther King Jr.,
saw pictures of the different monuments & learned
about the different levels of government.
Mrs. Feltz & the 3rd grade have been busy discussing & preparing for Lent! During
their Easter preparations, they made a
nice paper, Lenten Quilt that can be
seen outside of the 3rd grade classroom. In math,
its been all about multiplication! Students had so
much fun learning their multiplication tables and
have just finished their 12's and are now onto
division! Keep working on those times tables!
Science is so much fun in Mrs. Richard’s
lab! 4th & 5th Grade have been working
on Chemical Reactions & States of Matter while 6th, 7th, & 8th just completed
the Science Fair! She’d like to congratulate the Regional winners: Christian Lake, Keaton Forth, Erin Frosch, & Audrie Menas. Everyone did very well with the Science Fair this
year and they should be very proud of themselves. Early release days meant more time in the
lab & enjoying more science experiment fun!
Standing PTO Committees have been set
-up! Please make sure you sign-up for the
committee of your choice! Last PTO
Meeting of the year is May 16@ 6pm!

Eighth grade English students have just completed a
hard nine weeks working on their research paper
project! According to Mrs. Garcia, “They worked
very hard, and we are so proud of them! Sixth
