283 Council Chamber Indianapolis April 24th 1846. The Council met pursuant to adjournment, Present a full Council. Mr. Cady, laid before the Council a communication from James Morrison Ssq. in relation to, and accompanied with the revision of the Ordinances, submitted to him by order of the last meeting of the Council, for legal examination, - which was read and accepted. On Motion, The Council proceeded to consider the several chapters of the revision separately, and finally with a view to its adoption. Mr. Cady moved to fill the blank in Section inserting One hundred dollars, - adopted. Chapter by Mr. Cady moved to fill the blank in Section Chapter by inserting Two hundred dollars, and the ayes & noes being demanded, those who voted in the affirmative were Messrs. Montague, Goldsberry, Cady & Louden - 4. Those who voted in the negative were Messrs. HarrisSo the blank was filled accordingon, Vanblaricum & Mr. President - 3. iy. Chapter with Mr. Montague moved to fill the blank in Section One hundred dollars, and ayes & nays being demanded, those who voted in the affirmative were Messrs. Montague, Cady, Louden & Mr. President - 4. Those who voted in the negative were Messrs. Goldsberry, Harrison & Vanblaricum - 3. So said blank was filled accordingly. Mr. Goldsberry, moved to reconsider the vote on filling the blank in and the ayes & nays being demanded. Those Section Chapter who voted affirmatively were Messrs. Goldsberry, Harrison, Vanblaricum Those who voted negatively were Messrs. Montague & Mr. President - 4. Louden & Cady - 3. So said vote was reconsidered. Mr. Cady renewed his Motion to fill said blank with the sum of Two hundred dollars, and the ayes & nays being demanded thereon - Those who voted affirmatively were Messrs. Montague, Louden & Cady - 3. Those who voted negatively were Messrs. Goldsberry, Harrison, Vanblaricum and Mr. President - 4. So said blank was not so filled. Mr. Louden moved that said Blank be filled with "One hundred and seventy five dollars, and the ayes & nays being demanded. Those who voted affirmatively were Messrs. Montague, Louden & Cady - 3. Those who voted negatively were Messrs. Goldsberry, Harrison, VanBlaricum & Mr. President - 4. So said blank was not so filled. " Mr. Goldsberry moved that said blank be filled with the sum of One hundred and fifty'Mollars, - and the ayes and nays being demanded thereon, Those who voted affirmatively were Messrs. Montague, Goldsberry, Louden, Cady & Mr. President - 5. Those who voted negatively were Messrs. Harrison & VanBlaricum - 2. So said blank filled accordingly, 284 Mr, Louden moved to fill the blank in Section Chapter with the sum of Seventy five dollars , and the ayes & nays thereupon being demanded. - Those who voted in the affirmative were Messrs. Montague, Goldsberry, Louden & Mr. President - 4. Those who voted in the negative were Messrs. Harrison, Cady & Vanblaricum - 3. So the blank was filled accordingly. Mr. Goldsberry, moved to fill the blank in Section Chapter with the sum of "Fifty"dollars, and the ayes & nays being thereupon called. - Those who voted in the affirmative were Messrs. Montague, Goldsbierry, Harrison, Vanblaricum & Mr. President. Those who voted in the negative were Messrs. Louden & Cady - 2. So said blank was filled accordingly. On Motion, the blank in Section Chapter filled with the sum of "Fifty" dollars. was respectively Chapter On Motion, the blank in Section filled with the sum of Twenty five dollars. was respectively Several amendments were made to other chapters of the Revision, when On Motion It was Resolved. That the Revision of the Ordinances under the title of "An Ordinance for the regulation and government of the town of Indianapolis" be and the same is hereby adopted, to take effect from and after the fifteenth day of May A.D. 1846. Proposals for Printing the proceedings of the Common Council during the current year and also to publish the Revised Ordinance for the regulation and government of the town, in phamplet form, presented in Accordance with previous resolutions adopted by the Council, by the Messrs. Chapman of the State Sentinel. Messrs. Morrison & Spam of the Democrat, and Mr. John D. Depress of the State Journal, were opened and read. The Council proceeded to determine between them, by ballot, which resulted in the election of Mr. Defrees; whose proposal for the printing was accepted and is as follows towit: "Indianapolis April 23rd 1846. To the Common Council etc. Gentlemen - I will publish the proceedings of the Council at the rate of Fifteen cents for every 250 ems. I will print the revision in Phamplet form at the regular established rate of printing - being 50 cents for 1000 ems - and 50 cts. per token for press work, and the paper at cost - Or upon the condition the phamplet be given me, at the above rate, I will publish the proceedJohn D. DefreesT" ings without charge . Ordered, That two hundEed (200) copies of the revision be printed for the use of the Council. On Motion, Messrs Cady & Harrison were appointed a Committee to superintend the purchase of the paper, and the printing of the revision, and such other matters as are connected therewith, On Motion - The President was added to said conmittee. 285 On Motion of Mr. Cady Resolved, That the Secretary call upon Messrs. K. & H. Brown, for a report of the present condition of suits, heretofore confided to their management by the Common Council, and the probable time when such cases as have been appealed to the Supreme Court will be decided, and particularly specifying the subject matter of, and parties to the suits now pending - And have the same ready for the next regular meeting of the Council. Mr. Harrison offered for adoption the following reeolution Resolved that John D. Defrees, be and he is hereby appointed public printer to the Common Council for the term of one year from the first day of April 1846 - Not adopted. Mr. Goldsberry, Presented a petition from James Southard, praying the Council to grant him the privilege to take a portion of the surplus earth on the east side of Square No. 18, to complete the side walk immediately in front of his property, which petition was granted. The Report of the Treasurer of the Corporation accompanied with the proper vouchers, for the Month of April last past, was presented read and confirmed. The Report of the Weighmaster for the Month of April last past, were presented read and received.
