UCD GET IN GEAR BE ACTIVE STAFF PROGRAMME MARCH 2015 20-20-20 Couch to 5K Run Pilates for Beginners Yoga for Relaxation This class is a mixture of cardiovascular and resistance exercises designed to target every muscle group in the body. It will help improve your cardiovascular fitness and help to define and tone your body with a variety of exercises to ensure you get a full body workout! This class is very popular among the GIG members. Using the UCD woodland walkways as our route, this class will help you ease into running at a gradual level. The idea is to transform you from a couch potato to a runner, getting you running three miles (5K) on a regular basis. This session will get you fit and the emphasis is on increasing the time or the distance you run each week. Don’t miss out and enjoy tracking your fitness over the 6 weeks. This class is designed for beginners and its focus is on the Pilates principles of breathing, core stabilisation, alignment, body awareness and control. Enjoy the opportunity to learn how to develop those core postural muscles and aim to improve the perfect balance between strength and flexibility for your body. Yoga is the practice of uniting all aspects of a person – body, mind, and spirit, through physical postures, breathing exercises and meditation. Flexibility, strength and muscle tone improve quickly as the mind and body work together in harmony and unison. Yoga is an excellent way to stretch and strengthen the body, focus the mind, and relax the spirit. In fact, most modern stress-reduction techniques are based on the principles of yoga. Badminton for Fun & Fitness This session will provide a great opportunity to drop in and play badminton where the focus will be on fun, exercising and meeting new colleagues who also enjoy playing badminton. Drop in, be part of a team and enjoy playing against other GIG members. Open to both males & females and is suitable for all skill levels where a coach will be on hand to oversee the session to allow you to even enjoy it more. Boxercise Boxercise is a very popular fitness training method designed for you to experience the thrills of boxing without the contact. The session will include the combination of pad work, skipping, footwork, and speed work allowing your upper and lower body to receive an invigorating workout. Bums N Tums This class offers a whole series of exercises from crunches to lunges to air cycling to squats, aimed at specifically toning up the bum and tum area. When it comes to shifting the excess fat, these are the parts of your body which prove difficult. So, by targeting these areas, you are tackling the problem areas in a fun but very effective session. What a nice feeling when you see the rewards of those toned areas! Circuit Training for Fitness This workout combines a range of exercises stations which allows you to move from one station to the next mixing up body conditioning exercises with resistance, with aerobic exercises. Each individual is encouraged to focus on their individual improvement while been motivated by the positive energy of the group aswel as the high energy music. DancePl3y DANCEPL3Y (dance-play) is a high-energy, mixedstyle dance programme where individuals discover and “play” with various elements of dance in an interACTIVE way. Various group formations are paired with an innovative 360-degree teaching style to create safe, engaging and motivating class where everyone can experience success! Rock Climbing for Beginners Have a go at climbing our indoor climbing wall and enjoy the exhilarating feeling of this challenging activity. This activity will take place under the supervision of a qualified climbing instructor where you will learn the basics of climbing in a safe environment with climbing equipment provided for the session. Spinning Session Give your heart, lungs and major muscles groups a workout using stationary cycling bikes. Spinning is a fantastic way to improve cardiovascular fitness, stamina, and leg strength. You set the resistance and speed to suit your level and be motivated by the instructor and the high energy music. DiddlyFit Tai Chi This Irish Dance class is designed for individuals to enjoy the movement of Irish Dance while also getting a workout. Enjoy simple Irish dance moves in fun formations to upbeat music delivered by a passionate and energetic instructor. Tai Chi is a non-competitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. This class is suitable for all fitness levels and open to beginners also. Tai Chi is a very soft and gentle form of exercise, with slow graceful flowing movements that brings relaxation and health to the body, mind, and spirit. Kettlebells Circuit Get ready for a dynamic workout. Burn the calories in this circuit training class which focuses on cardio and sculpting your body using a Kettlebell. Take on the challenge of a maximum strengthening, cardio conditioning, and fat burning workout. Unlike the traditional weights, the Kettlebell swings while engaging your core with every move that will tone up your abs and sculpt your body shape. TRX Suspension Training This is a workout utilising a system of suspended straps with handles, allowing the user work against their body weight as they train. This interval-based class will keep your heart rate elevated as you transition between cardio and strength intervals to exercises on the TRX straps to develop strength, balance, flexibility, endurance, coordination, and core stability. Yoga & Pilates Fusion This class combine yoga stretches and Pilates core strengthening exercises to bring you the best of both worlds. The aim of the class is to not only improve your body posture, increase your muscle tone and develop those abs but also to de-clutter the mind and experience a state of relaxation at the end of the class. Zumba Toning Zumba Toning takes the original Zumba dance fitness class to the next level, utilising different muscles with the addition of light weight toning sticks which are supplied.
