News for the Week of November 28 Reading: This week we will be reading the book, Mooseltoe. The objectives for this book will be inferencing, nouns and verbs, and parts of a friendly letter. We will continue to work on story elements and sequencing. The phonics focus for this week will be the “oo” sound. The spelling words are: moon, soon spoon, book, took, look, cook, shook, little, very. Math: In math we will work on adding two digit numbers with regrouping. Also, lots of the children have forgotten how to identify coins and their values from kindergarten. Please go over the four coins with your child over the break. We will begin counting coins soon and the children need to know how to identify each coin and how much each coin is worth. Reminders: (I will send home an important date’s letter on Monday, November 28 since December is so busy.) November 29th – Elf Day – children dress like elves (If you can make a special elf themed snack let me know.) November 30th – Santa Day – children were Santa hats (If you can make a special Santa themed snack, please let me know. December 1st Santa Pictures – children may wear style day clothes for the pictures. Grinch Day is December 7th. Children wear green. Reindeer Day is December 8th – children wear antlers. We will be making shirts for this day! Please send in a plain white t-shirt. We will be having Holidays around the World the week of December 12th. The children will be visiting the following countries: China, Germany, Mexico, and Israel. Please ask them about their travels. A letter will be sent home about this when the children return from break. Polar Express Day will be December 15th. The children may wear pajamas and bring a blanket and a pillow for the activities for this day. The Winter Party will be December 16th at 11:45.
