FEBRUARY, 2013
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month
KIDS FIRST has invited a local dentist, Dr. Bill Eggart, to come and talk to us
about the importance of taking care of your child’s teeth. Dr. Eggart is using his
lunch hour to come to our clinic and we are inviting all parents to come out to
hear him. He will be here on February 21st, 2013 from 1:00-2:00 pm. and will be
giving toothbrushes to the children. Parents please come and join us to hear our
guest speaker, Dr Eggart. Hope to see you and feel free to invite a
guest! This will be our first “Parent Meeting of the year.” ZeAndrea

Catch that Cough, Seize that Sneeze!
You may have been taught as a child to cough and sneeze into your hands. But
research has shown that this practice actually spreads germs. Your hands are
how you meet and greet the world, so they are portals for germs. So what is the best way to cover your cough or sneeze? Cover your mouth and
nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you do not have access to a tissue, use your inner elbow/upper sleeve to avoid covering your nose or mouth
with your bare hands. The final step is to use hand hygiene, which is the most effective way to stop
infection from spreading. This procedure includes using warm water to moisten
hands, lathering with regular soap, washing thoroughly for at least 20 seconds,
rinsing, and drying with a disposable or single-use towel or air dryer. The process of teaching correct respiratory etiquette must begin with parents and
caregivers serving as role models. Children watch and imitate your actions, even
coughing, sneezing, and hand washing. So Catch that Cough and Seize that
Sneeze! Brought to you by your center nurses Kim and Dona and Healthy Child Care

Loving is the most important thing we do for
our children. Notice
how your child likes to
be loved. Come up with
ideas that might help
each child feel loved.
Try out your ideas and
notice how they work.
Ask your child what
they like to do with
you. Listen to your
children’s concerns and
worries. Do little
things to show love to
each child. Appreciate
each child’s efforts.
Think about what it
feels like
to be that
child.
Love them.
The KIDS FIRST Administrator Carolyn Marsh, is retiring the end of February. Ms. Marsh
was the leading force in starting the KIDS FIRST Program in the early 1990’s. Her vision and
work with Dr. Bob Fiser, who was Chairman of UAMS Department of Pediatrics opened the
Morrilton clinic in 1992 and ten other clinics around the state. The Morrilton Staff would like
to say thank you to Ms Marsh for her support for the past 21 years.
February 18th, 2013 KIDS FIRST celebrates 21
years of serving families in Conway county and
surrounding areas.
