PASTOR’S PAGE
Parthians, Medes, Elamites...” Acts 2:8
I like to think of the Day of Pentecost as the first recorded
use of social media by the church! Instead of keeping the joy
of the Spirit to themselves, the disciples were compelled,
impelled and thrown pell-mell into communicating with lots of
people they didn’t know in languages with which they were
unfamiliar! You think learning the new languages of Twitter or
Facebook is hard, try Parthian!
Those disciples told the story of Jesus in new languages
so that others might know the joy, power, forgiveness and love
of God they had come to know as they worked with Jesus.
They trusted the Spirit, and the Spirit gave them the power
and courage to communicate in ways they had never
imagined.
As we move further into the 21st century, maybe
cyberspace will be used just as effectively as word of mouth
was in a courtyard in Jerusalem full of strangers in the first
century. What the Spirit needs is willing disciples to tell the
story of Jesus Christ and welcome those who seek. We need
to remember that before we are stewards of church buildings
or church budgets, we are stewards of His story of grace, of
hope. There are people out there in the streets of our cities
and towns waiting to hear it.

LAY LEADER CORNER
The month of June has arrived quietly this year with its’
pleasantly cool weather. There is much beauty around us with the
flowers, bushes, gardens and even some of our flowering trees are
putting on a show of beauty.
We will be celebrating Pentecost, the 50th day after Easter,
on June 4th. This is one of the major days of the Christian year.
This is when the Christian church commemorates the coming of
the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and others assembled in
Jerusalem. To celebrate the day, wear Red! You will notice the
liturgical color for Pentecost is red for this Sunday only.
Pentecost, Season After, is the period after Pentecost Sunday
to the first Sunday in Advent. You will often see, by tradition, the
Sundays after Pentecost are numbered. The 1st Sunday after
Pentecost is Trinity Sunday, and you will see the liturgical color is
white. Beginning with the 2nd Sunday
after Pentecost/in Kingdomtide and all the way to the 3rd Sunday
in November, liturgical colors will be green.
Students graduating and/or going through promotion
exercises at our local schools will be recognized at the 9 a.m.
church service June 11, 2017. Come and give support to our
amazing youth at this time.
FATHER’S DAY recognition will be June 18th. We have many
stories waiting to be told about our Fathers, and it is always a joy
to hear them. See you in Church so we can hear your story!
The Northern California Nevada Methodist Church will be
holding its annual conference June 21 to June 24, 2017. If you care
to follow the itinerary, you can log in on the Conference Web Site.
Our Church Family has really been in prayer for many of our
folks who are seriously ill or have other needs. Please lift all of
these people up in your thoughts and prayers daily. If you are not
able to be in church and you are in need of prayer, please call the
church. You can speak with Pastor Glen, request to be put on the
prayer chain and it will be e-mailed out to the Prayer Chain folks
who will pray for you, and/or ask that you prayer request go to
the Prayer Circle on Thursday a.m. when they meet to pray. May
you feel God’s love and peace today and always.
Blessings on all as you surprise different folks with good deeds
this summer.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
What an amazing time was had by the 175 spectators
‘Under the Big Top!’ The UMW Annual Salad Luncheon was
another blessed and successful event. As usual, the
entertainment was equal to any trapeze act, the food worthy
of much applause and the raffle and fellowship simply
magical! Thank you to all who had a hand in making this
event the success that it was. Our Ringmaster, Carol Swain
and her team began working on this event almost as soon as
the last one ended. Thanks again to Carol’s Girl’s Club from
Cordua School for their entertainment and service. It is
always a pleasure to watch these young ladies in action. We
are not sure how we will top this one but stay tuned and mark
your calendars now, (probably May 12, 2018), so you will not
miss the next UMW Annual Salad Luncheon! Oh the places
we could go…
With summer coming soon, this is a good time to be
reminded of UMW coming events.
A Meet and Greet will be held in Auburn at Auburn
Pioneer United Methodist Church. We are hoping that, since
Auburn is not that far from us, there will be many from our
church attending this event. It is good to go and support our
sisters whenever possible. These Meet and Greet events are
meant for that. Not only that, it is such a blessing to
fellowship with each other and learn amazing things about
what other groups are doing. It also gives a clue as to how
we can pray for our sisters and their churches.
The Mercy Retreat, also in Auburn, is full. Isn’t that a
blessing? However, there is still an opportunity for you to
attend if you did not get a chance to register. Let Marcia
Davis know as soon as possible if you would like to attend
and she will give you all of the information you will need.
Mission U will be held in Gardnerville, NV for three days
in July, in Livermore for 2 days in August and in Palo Alto for
1 day in August. Also, the Annual UMW Conference
Celebration will be held in Loomis this October. Again,
Loomis is very close for us and what a great opportunity to
attend a Conference event! We hope that many will be able
to attend on October 21.
Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you
JUST SIT THERE!
Our UWM luncheon final get-together before summer will
be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Szechwan Chinese
Restaurant, 223 First Street, Marysville. For reservations,
call Lelah Holmes or Betty Bradbury. Cost is $10.00 per
person.
Marcia Davis, President
Vivian Riley & Bonnie Shelton, Co-Vice Presidents
Thank you to the many women who helped
make the salad luncheon “Under the Big Top”
a huge success! Carol Swain coordinated the
whole affair and worked all year making
things for the drawing and making the
decorations. Daisy Shelton made many of the
beautiful flowers.
Deborah & Curtis Klein
brought the huge elephant. Again, thanks to
everyone who helped in making salads, buying
tickets and especially the clean-up crew!

Circuit Rider Children’s Page – June 2017
Attendance this spring has been great. Average
attendance has been 25-30 at all levels. We can use
several teacher volunteers on Sunday morning.
We will acknowledge high school and middle school
graduates the second Sunday in June. If you have a
graduate in your family, please make us aware.
In June, July and August, the class lessons are
projects and subjects that are interesting and handson with children participating and becoming part of the
lesson. It’s fascinating the things our children can do.
Vacation Bible School is planned for four
evenings in June: Monday June 26 – Thursday,
June 29 @ 5 to 7 P.M. with light dinner at 5.
Signups and information on VBS is available. Pastor
Glen will be the coordinator and volunteers will help
keep it going. It will be a fun time for all levels. Please
think ahead and schedule your summer plans around
these evenings. Other summer events and dates will be
posted soon.
Rob and Liz Hilton will have some summer plans
with the youth group to attend some events and
summer activities. We’ll get dates on that soon.

MIRIAM CIRCLE
Dear Ladies,
Our last meeting was a nostalgic look at one-room school
houses in Northern California presented by Kathy O’Dell.
Thanks Kathy, for a fun afternoon. We also celebrated
Marilyn’s birthday.
Thank you all for a wonderful year of programming and
refreshments. What a lot of wonderful presenters we have
had. Thanks go to Marilyn Kostlivy for never failing to set up
our parlor for our meetings, and to Lelah Holmes for filling in
everywhere there was a need. Thanks also to Pam Fuhrman
for stepping in with some great guest speakers. The next
Miriam Circle meeting will be in September. We are off for
the summer. I pray you all have a nice summer full of
reflective time and friends and family. God bless you all. See
