Summer Reading List 2010 - Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill

Summer Reading 2010 It is our hope that you spent many pleasant hours reading aloud to your child this summer. Establishing a daily habit of reading is best and can be something that you all look forward to! Here are some ideas to keep this fresh and enjoyable: • Make regular trips to the library and let your child pick out books that he or she finds appealing. • Select a special book (or 2 or 3) to read in the car as you travel to your vacation destination. • Read about the places you will be visiting this summer. • Select books that are related to what you are doing this summer (for example, read books about the ocean if you are going to the beach). • Use the books you read as inspiration for art activities or fun experiences. • Minimize the amount of TV your child watches this summer. Instead, encourage him or her to put on dramas by acting out some of the stories you’ve read together. • Try reading a story without showing the pictures and have your child draw original illustrations. • Occasionally find unique or interesting places to read (for example, in a homemade tent in the den or up in the tree house!). Above all, make reading a delightful, non-‐stressful part of your summer! -‐-‐ Robin Lemke Director of Lower School TRINITY SCHOOL Summer Reading 2010 Trinity’s Summer Read Suggested Book Lists First through Sixth Grade Rising First Grade Author ........................
