Badger Bytes Principal’s Corner - Mr. Snow Today, Friday, March 03, 2017, is the end of our second trimester of school. Report cards are scheduled to come home next Wednesday. We are starting our annual Hanging Flower Basket sale and continuing our tree sale. You should have received order forms this week. We appreciate your help in getting the word out about these beautiful baskets (and selling off the remainder of the trees that are left). We have started a PR committee to share the good things that are going on at St. John. If you are interested in joining in please contact Mr. Snow. We are trying to get more articles and ads in the paper about St. John events and share information with other churches and the community. We would appreciate the help. The Wisconsin Private Schools Choice enrollment period is now open. If you know of a family that may be interested in a Christian education but think they cannot afford it, please have them contact the school office for more information. The enrollment period is only open until April 20, so encourage them to call right away. Our second and last pizza sale of the year is now underway. If you would like to participate to raise funds for tuition or 8th grade class trip please ask for order forms. Orders are due by March 17. Please remember that we do have school next Monday (March 6). It was originally scheduled as a faculty in-service day, but is now being used as a “snow make-up” day. We have entered the season of Lent in the church year. We have special Lenten services on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. We invite you to take advantage of the extra opportunities to worship with your family and remember what Jesus went through to secure your eternal salvation. Have a wonderful weekend. It is a hardcover book of Disney Classics. We hope that you enjoy reading these stories with your child. It was Dr. Suess’ birthday on Thursday. We enjoyed going shoeless while wearing crazy socks, answering to our middle names and watching “The Cat in the Hat”. (Suess was Theodor Suess Geisel’s middle name) We made “_at” rhyming books that looked like the hat of the Cat in the Hat. We have read several Dr. Suess books this week including “Fox in Socks”. Attached to this newsletter is another poem for you to read with your child. Help your child find all the Qq’s in the poem. Have your child count how many they found and write the answer. A sequencing activity is on the back. Jesus Time We read the story of Zaccheaus. Zaccheaus was a chief tax collector despised by his peers. When Jesus came to town Zaccheaus hoped to see Jesus, but due to his short stature he could not see over the crowds. He came up with a plan to climb a tree to get a view. As Jesus walked by He stopped and told Zaccheaus to come down. Jesus was going to eat at his house. Followers of Jesus thought He should not associate with a tax collector. Jesus changed the heart of Zaccheaus and can change our hearts too. He forgives all sins. PS/K Miss Linse In 3K we are having a blast reading Dr. Seuss books and working on writing the first letter in our names. We loved painting our red and blue fish project, which is now hanging in the hallway. We continue to work on our alphabet and practicing the days of the week and the months of the year during calendar time. We cannot believe it is the end of the second trimester already. In Kindergarten, we had a lot of fun celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Thursday. We had Dr. Seuss themed snacks and created rhyming hats. In Superkids we finished our middle of the year assessment and are gearing up for Superkid adventures. We cannot believe that our second trimester of kindergarten ends today and that our report cards come out on Wednesday, March 8th. 1st/2nd Mrs. Fritsch We had an exciting week hearing how Jesus brought the widow’s son back to life, and how he calmed the storm when the disciples were scared. We know that He calms us and cares for us when things go wrong, or we are scared. Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid. Isaiah 12:2. Second grade is learning a few new concepts again in math: comparisons, regrouping, and reading three digit numbers. First grade is adding two digit numbers, practicing tally marks, and counting ordinal numbers (first, second, third, and so on). Second grade has finished their first reader. The Superkids have just put on a play about Johnny Appleseed and Mother Nature. They are anxious to begin the next reader! First grade is reading their last story in their reader. They Remember that there is are also excited to begin the school on Monday March second book! We are learning 6th; it is a snow make-up to play floor hockey in gym. It is going very well. March day. definitely came in like a lion! Have a great weekend. 3rd/4th Grade Mrs. Schram A very special thank you to Mrs. Amber Trochinski and Mrs. Jill Hartzke for driving us to Heckrodt Wetlands. We had a great day for our animal tracking field trip. The girls got to make plaster animal tracks and examine many different animal pelts. The weather did not cooperate with us, so we were not able to snow shoe. Heckrodt is a 76 acre preserve, so needless to say, we got to do quite a bit of hiking. West Bloomfield has invited us to watch their spring musical next Thursday morning, March 9. The school will be taking a bus up there. 5th/6th Grade Mr. Snow We took test #16 in math class this week. Those should have come home for parental viewing and s ignatures . We h av e completed lesson #90 this week. Test #17 will be on Monday. We have started our new book in reading class following AR tests on the last book. The new book is called The Secret of the Cupboard. Omri is moving into another house in the country. It is a house that is called an English “longhouse” with a plaque that held the initials “LB”. We think there is some connection with Omri’s past adventures with Little Bear and the magic cupboard. The class has been working hard on our art project. Ask your child to see what they have been up to. 7th/8th Grade Mrs. GeRue We finished our Central America and Caribbean Island chapter in Geography and took the test today. Next week we will begin a chapter on some South American countries. In science we are on the last section of o ur ch apte r abo ut birds. Don't forget to claim your private school tuition tax deduction! There is a silver lining to this dreaded deadline for private school parents. Thanks to advocacy by WCRIS, state law allows Wisconsin parents to deduct private school tuition on their taxes. This is the third year the private school tuition tax deduction has been available, so don't forget to remind parents and tax professionals of this enormous opportunity. Please help spread the word to your families so that they can take advantage of this financial benefit. In total, the deduction has the potential to provide up to $30 million in tax relief for taxpayers with children in private schools. In 2014 alone, the first year of the deduction, parents saved $11.2 million, according to DOR reports analyzed by the Wisconsin Tax Payers Alliance (WisTax). Regardless of income, parents and legal guardians are eligible for a maximum deduction of $4,000 per child in grades K-8 and $10,000 per child in grades 9-12. Students transitioning from eighth to ninth grade are eligible for both deductions. You can pick up your 2016 Tuition Statement in the office—or call Mrs. Reeves to have it sent home with your child, or emailed. Easy Money for our School! A student qualifies for the WPCP on the basis of their residency and their family income, if applicable. Students must reside in a Wisconsin school district, other than in the city of Milwaukee and Racine Unified School District. Additionally, students in the WPCP must meet at least one of the prior year school attendance requirements: (1) been enrolled in a public school in Wisconsin in the 201617 school year, (2) have not been enrolled in school in the 2016-17 school year, (3) be applying for kindergarten, first or ninth grade at the private school in the 2017-18 school year or (4) participated in the WPCP in the 2016-17 school year. For the 2017-18 school year, a new student must have a family income at or below the amount listed in Table 3. Students who participated in the WPCP in 2016-17 or were on the DPI’s waiting list in 2016-17 are not required to prove that they are income eligible. Family income includes the income of the student’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) that reside in the same household as the student applicant.
