Character Notes for auditions Glinda the Goose Fairy (Female) A traditional pantomime fairy. She needs to tell our story and engage with the children in a sincere way. She has taken on a wager with the villain and regularly exchanges with him/her. This role may be combined with the Fairy Queen. She can be any playing age. Villain: Horribella or Beezlebub, the Raven Fairy (Male or female) This is a traditional panto villain role, mainly exchanging with the Fairy. Traditionally evil, must be able to engage with the audience without being too threatening or scary. This is possibly a smaller role than usual, as most evil doings are carried out by the Squire, who the Villain control. He/she need strong comedic skills and must be a good singer for “Pure Imagination” in Finale Act 1. Billy (Male) Billy is Mother Goose’s sillier son and is a traditional linkman role. Along with Jack, he joins his Mum in most comic antics. The children’s favourite, he needs strong comedy skills and to be able to speak directly with the audience. He is involved in the slapstick comedy number, the 12 Days Of Christmas. Mother Goose (Male) Traditional panto Dame. As well as a strong comedy role, Mother Goose must be capable of taking us through a range of feelings, as her personality is tempted and changes throughout the show. She starts being sweet and kind, before becoming more selfish and grotesque, to the disapproval of the audience. She then has regrets and seeks forgiveness. Sings a comedy song; 'Happy Go Lucky Me'. Jack (Female or male) Jack is Billy’s brother and Mother Goose’s more sensible and romantic son. A traditional Principal Boy type. He is in love with Jill, the Squire’s niece. He needs good singing skills as he will lead in several songs. He’ll also be in the slapstick 12 Days Of Christmas. Jill (Female) Traditional panto principal girl. She is the Squire’s daughter and in love with Jack. She is honest, virtuous and a little spirited when needed. A smaller role, as she spends most of her time waiting for Jack to be rich enough to marry her. A singing role, she has the duet 'It Must Be Love' with Jack and leads in several others. Squire Moneybags (Male) This is more than the usual ‘father of the princess’ role! A kindly gentleman and Uncle to Jill, he does not know he is under a magic spell and being controlled by the Villain. With a click of the fingers, he can be switched into an evil persona and back again. And in this evil guise, he unwittingly carries out the brunt of baddie activity during the show. He needs strong comedy skills and to be able to show a very definite change in character as he is switched from good to evil. Pricilla (Goose) Will need a strong physical presence to ‘perform’ through the restriction of a skin costume. Will also speak/emote through a duck call. Good co-ordination and possible dance skills required. Members of the company will be selected postaudition to play this part; there is no audition piece for this. Goose Fairy Queen (Female) Although a strong, authoritative type; the Goose Fairy Queen can be played by any age. She looks and behaves in a regal way as befits a Queen; but she is capable of rocking out, singing the lead in 'The Time Warp'. This role may be combined with Glinda the Goose Fairy. The Chorus will play Villagers, Party Go-ers and Citizens of Gooseland. There are also cameo roles in the chorus, plus The It’s-Behind-You Creature, Pricilla and Disney Princesses at a Party. The ‘littlie’ chorus will have 2 speciality dances; as little Goslings in Act 1 and Fairies in Act 2.
