Summer 2008
Greyhouse is Now Open
After months of prayer, planning, and construction, on July 14th we opened the doors of Greyhouse.
Friends,
W
e have been open for about a
month, and the community seems
to really be embracing Greyhouse. We
are scrambling to hire more staff and keep
enough coffee brewed!
I wish you all could experience it as I have
been able to: to sit down for a cup of coffee
and watch and listen to people sharing their
lives, students settling in to a corner to invest
in classwork, or families taking a break to
relax and be together. Amidst the clinking
of cups you can see relationships forming
and genuine community happening.
But for all that Greyhouse is, it is just a
piece of what we have planned for the year.
We have been working through the month to
prepare for the students coming in a couple
weeks. We hope to make the best parts
of Greyhouse just the start of reaching out
beyond Campus House, loving people well,
and building Godly relationships.
Please pray with all of us that the coffeeshop is just one of many open “doorways” to
reaching out to students this coming year.
Thank you for making all these things possible. We are so thankful to have you as a
part of our team!

coffeehouse in town”-and that they had
been wanting to come study there.

Jaclyn is a third year Pharmacy sctudent. She sent
this letter as an email to our staff recently, and I
have asked her if I could share it with you.
I
got to drop by Greyhouse this
weekend with my family for a
few minutes because we were in town
for my cousin’s birthday. It looks fantastic! Not minutes after walking in, I saw
two of my friends outside from freshman year dorm. I ran out to meet them,
and they said “Hey, were you in Greyhouse?”- And I told them that yea, it was
my first time. They said they had heard
that it was amazing inside-”the coolest
So they came in and hung out with
me for a few minutes. Two people who
would have never stepped foot in campus house even if I had begged them- I
couldn’t have kept them out of Greyhouse doors. They loved it. For me, it really spoke to the heart of Greyhouse- A
place that people want to be- where
they are comfortable- and a place
where people are intrigued to ask questions.

Looking around at Greyhouse- I
was amazed by the diversity of people
there- all kinds of different ethnicitiesdifferent purposes of being there- and

even different ages. I watched Ali work
with one patron for a good 10 or 15 minutes, literally down on her knees cleaning
a spill and helping with an internet connection. I could just see the fingerprints
of Christ everywhere- and found myself
just praying that the presence of God
would fall there. I know that the staff
poured themselves into the coffeehouse
this summer with really long hours and
lots of hard work to get it accomplishedand continued long hours as it is getting
started. I am definately praying for
all of you and your families- that God
would protect you and strengthen you
and give you time to rest- especially as
you also try to prepare all of the usual
campus house stuff for the fall. Thanks
so much to all of you for the sacrifices
you made to make this dream of a new
way of reaching students a reality- and
for continually giving of yourselves in
the day to day of Campus House. From
the heart of a student, I will forever be
grateful for the oppportunity I have to
participate in a ministry of like- minded
people such as this.
