Australian Fintech Pays $5 Million of Everyday Bills with Bitcoin Brisbane, Australia 8th May 2017 Brisbane-based Fintech Living Room of Satoshi reports that Australians have paid over $5 million of everyday household bills with Bitcoin since launching in 2014. Living Room of Satoshi is an online service that enables payment of any Australian bill using Bitcoin; including phone bills, electricity bills, school fees, credit card and tax payments. Often called ‘the currency of the internet’, Bitcoin is experiencing strong adoption growth in Australia and offers a fast and secure alternative to traditional online payments. CEO Daniel Alexiuc said: “I started Living Room of Satoshi in 2014 because at the time there was very little practical use for the nascent currency Bitcoin. As the first truly international, decentralised and peer to peer currency, Bitcoin is perfectly suited to bill payments in Australia. It also enables new possibilities, like parents in foreign countries being able to easily support their children studying in Australia by paying some of their bills.” Living Room of Satoshi is designed for ease of use, even by people new to Bitcoin. Paying a bill simply involves entering the BPAY or bank details from the bottom of your bill into the homepage, and paying the specified amount of Bitcoin that comes up. Having no login requirements and no registration process, a household bill can literally be paid in seconds even for new customers who have never used the website before. Daniel Alexiuc reports: “Bitcoin is the currency of the internet. For the first time in history, a truly international peer-to-peer currency was created, not requiring the involvement of any government or banking system. It’s fascinating that a competing non-AUD currency is being used in Australia in a very tangible way – we’ve processed over $5 million in payments.” The first recorded usage of Bitcoin was on May 22nd 2010 when Laszlo Hanyecz, a software developer, paid 10,000 Bitcoin for two pizzas. The market price of Bitcoin gained value rapidly, hovering in the $300 range during 2015, and increasing to over $1700 AUD in May 2017. A single Bitcoin surpassed the value of 1KG of Silver, 1 Oz of Platinum, and recently became more valuable than 1 Oz of Gold. CEO Daniel Alexiuc said: “Bitcoin is experiencing rapid growth in 2017 due to its nature as an ‘uncorrelated asset’ – as an investment it does not appear to be affected by movements in other currencies or precious metals, by global sharemarkets, or by any particular industry or government. This makes it highly sought after by hedge fund managers and individuals looking to diversify their wealth.” -- Ends -- About Living Room of Satoshi Living Room of Satoshi is a blockchain payments company that enables payment of any bill using bitcoin, the currency of the internet.
