President’s Message
"THE POWER OF UNITY…ALL WORKERS MATTER!"
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
We are delighted to announce that the 2016 National Education Conference will convene in the legendary
industrial city of DETROIT, MICHIGAN!
The city of Detroit is significant for all workers, with particular significance for black workers. Detroit
became a global symbol of American ingenuity as it became the capital of America’s most important
industry—automobile manufacturing. Most importan tly, it gave power to the American Worker.
The promise of good jobs in the automobile factories, and the rising union wages in the UAW were
substantive lures for many blacks migrating from the rural south to the north in search of the American
Dream. The powerful connection between workers in the auto industry and the influence of the civil
rights movement is one that is told in the story of A. Philip Randolph and UAW's president Walter
Reuther in their stance for endorsement of the March on Washington in 1963.
It is for those reasons we are so very proud to stand once again with our brothers and sisters in the city of
industrial revolution to celebrate the power of all workers.
Please accept my personal invitation for you to join us during the National Education Conference which
will convene on August 24-28, 2016 at the Marriott Detroit Renaissance Center hotel. We have
negotiated a rate of $139.00 per night (single or double occupancy). The cut-off date for this rate is:
