Saturday, June 17th, following 4pm Mass What’s Your Catholic IQ?! Which book in the New Testament has the MOST number of words and which has the LEAST? One of our core values as a committee is Learning. Many of us experienced a heart that longed for Jesus well before we had any real understanding of our faith. In order to explore that longing, we must educate ourselves about our faith, our Savior, and His bride the Church. “A man can be a believer without learning, but it is impossible for a man without learning to comprehend the things declared in the faith,” says St. Clement of Alexandria. We value learning. What is a member of our Parish Staff reading this week?! Amy Mott– 5 Conversations You Must Have With Your Daughter By: Vicki Courtney Catholic IQ Answer: Most is Gospel of Matthew with 18,000 words and Least is St. John’s third letter with 220 words. I promised Dick Teresinski that we would help him find a partner to continue the work of John Berger with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The service of the poor is at the heart of the gospel. Now, Dick asks for your help. There are two ways that you can help. NEW PARISHIONERS MAY Summer Stewardship Tree – It’s back! Did you know that through simple acts of kindness, social accountability initiatives or even donating an item for our parish food pantry are all acts of Stewardship that serve and honor God? Please check out the Stewardship tree in the narthex on the weekends of June 10 & 11 and the 17 & 18 for ideas on things you can do this summer that offer a variety of ways to serve God through these simple acts. How it works: Ornaments on the tree contain a variety of stewardship acts. You may want to pick one for the entire family to do together or you may want to have individual family members pick items that appeal to them. Please take the ornament off the tree and bring it home as a reminder. Perform the suggested activity as you have time this summer. There is no need to return the ornament, and enjoy the blessings that come from being a good steward! St. John’s Prayer Group St. John’s Prayer group has been meeting every Thursday night at 7:00pm in the Church Narthex for the past seven years. It is always open to anyone who wants to grow in their faith. Through music, scripture, personal testimony, and various forms of prayer, we lift up our country, our parish, our families and our youth. If you have a personal prayer request, call Marilyn Johnson at 4340332. We will lift up your need in prayer. Please consider joining us. The schedule for Breaking Open the Sunday Readings is on Wednesday mornings from 6:30-7:30am and on Wednesdays evenings from 6 – 7:00pm in the Narthex. Everyone is invited! If you have a bible, please bring it along, but it isn’t required. No need to sign up; just show up when you can. This is the week to give it a try! If you have already registered but did not have your whole family available for a picture, please stop in. We’d like to include your family picture on our New Member board. June 11, 2017 ______ WHERE HAVE THE St. Vincent DePaul Boxes Gone? Hello We here at SVDP have determined that the donations at many of our drop box locations have gotten out of control. This leads to overflow, damage, theft and unsightly mess. Unfortunately, at this time we don’t have the manpower to manage the extreme amount of donations that are dropped off at these sites. For these reasons we will be pulling the box from your location. If you receive any questions as to where to bring donations, please direct people to our Donation Center. St Vincent de Paul Donation Center 1529 Leo Frigo Way Green Bay WI 54302 Donation hours are: Monday through Friday 9AM – 7PM Saturday 9AM – 3PM We will be looking at a new method of having items donated to us through off sight locations and when/if we are ready to implement this, we will offer it up as an option for your location. Thank you Jeremy Bartels Manager of Warehouses, Processing and Distribution St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store (920) 435-4040 ext 132 www.svdpgb.org Shrines of Eastern Canada and Niagara Falls It happened one day as Deacon Nick was describing this pilgrimage/trip that he was organizing. I told him I thought that was great. I might even join the pilgrimage. Next thing I know is that I am spiritual director. What me? Well, we will be doing just like we do in the parish. We say, and believe, that we do it together. We will be discovering scenes of great beauty and much history. We will be learning about ordinary women and men who were so influential in the founding of our faith in the New World. We will be telling a lot of stories and doing a lot of laughing. It will be a pilgrimage and we will be discovering the beauty, music, faith, joy, art and discovery that this pilgrimage will bring. Would you like to come join us? We will learn together all that God desires to give to us. Please give Deacon Nick a call 4945105 or stop him after church. Soon we must give Lamers a roster of those who are going and we would love to have you join us! Fr. John The Most Holy Trinity Dear People of God, A good number stayed after the 10:00 Mass last Sunday for the blessing of the monument that enjoys a prominent place right off the circular drive in front of the new church. This monument is a most generous gift of our Knights of Columbus. The Knights are active around the world supporting the ministry of priests and caring for their families and those of brother knights and others in need. As we read the Ten Commandments, I thought of the words of the scripture: how blessed we are to have God so close and receive this excellent way of living. As we read the Seven Precepts of the Church, I again thought of the scriptures: An uncertain trumpet blast sirs no one’s soul. This monument, along with the Ten Commandments and the Seven Precepts of the Church, remind us how blessed we are. The commandments are not just good suggestions – take them or leave them. The Seven Precepts are not to make life more difficult but, to make life more livable. Thank you, brother Knights. This generous gift will anchor our faith life and our church practice for many years to come. Thank you also to Michelle Nowak, Jenny Wassenberg, Matthew Utech and Pat Femling who are new members of the Parish Council. Thanks also to Jean Payette who will serve as trustee-secretary and all those who have served this past year. We are asking parish team and members of the Pastoral and Finance Councils and at least two representatives from each committee to reserve Tuesday evening, August 22nd from 6:30-8:30 pm. For a most important meeting. Someone from the Diocese will be here to help us focus our efforts for the greater glory of God and help of each other. This will not be the same as last year so, please, put this evening on your calendar. Peace Fr.
