WELCOME TO THE SPRING 2017 SECOND-YEAR
TRANSFORMATIONAL EXPERIENCE PROGRAM (STEP) EXPO
A partnership between the Office of Academic Affairs and
the Office of Student Life, STEP focuses on both student
engagement and student development in an effort to
enhance second-year success. Through interaction with
faculty mentors, students have the opportunity to engage
in a transformational experience and are exposed to
activities designed to enhance personal, professional and
academic success. Building upon key components of
second-year success, students live on campus, participate
in key co-curricular programs and activities, learn through
peer interaction, and are guided by faculty mentors.
NOTE: The international STEP Signature Projects represented this year at the STEP Expo reflect projects created during the
pilot years of STEP. As of autumn, 2015, the use of STEP funding for international projects in any of the six STEP categories
is restricted to programming managed by Ohio State (this could mean a college program, class, Buck-I-SERV, university
program...). This restriction is published in the current Signature Project Guidelines for each of the six STEP categories.
Created as an extension of Ohio State’s commitment to
the student experience, STEP provides an opportunity for
education beyond the classroom. Through collaboration
with faculty mentors, students develop proposals to engage
in a transformational experience in one of six core areas
(internships, leadership, education abroad, service-learning,
undergraduate research, or artistic and creative endeavors).
As a result, students gain greater self-awareness, explore
educational interests and further develop career goals
and aspirations.
The STEP Expo provides an opportunity for STEP students to
showcase their accomplishments and reflect upon the impact
of their STEP experience.
We hope you enjoy interacting with Ohio State’s STEP
students and take time to learn more about the impact STEP
has had on their personal growth and academic success.

THE SECOND-YEAR TRANSFORMATIONAL EXPERIENCE
PROGRAM (STEP) is an innovative program designed to enhance
Ohio State students’ experience and success. STEP offers
participating students direct access and connection to a select
group of faculty members who are fully committed to student
success, engagement and development. In addition to this deep
level of faculty interaction, students have access to hundreds of
co-curricular programs, including financial literacy training.
