Mission Trips at Valley PURPOSE To exercise thoroughly our bodies, minds and spirits in the service of those we meet. To step out of our normal lives and into the pilgrim’s journey, accepting all of the challenges that present themselves along the way with the grace of Jesus. To seek knowledge about and work to understand and value, ourselves, those we meet, those who lead, those who follow, and those who watch over us and care for us. SAFETY MEASURES 1) Only adults are allowed to use power tools. 2) Only adults are allowed to start or move any vehicle. 3) Wear gloves, goggles, and face masks when the occasion calls for it or when instructed by an adult to do so. 4) Abide by the dress code. 5) Notify an adult before taking any over-the-counter medication. 6) Notify Sarah of any prescription medication that you will be bringing on the trip. 7) Wear your sunblock and drink your water. 8) Stay within a group at all times. 9) Use common sense and avoid dangerous activities. DRESS CODE While we are on our trip we will work hard and play hard. Our manner of dress should reflect our purpose to serve. For that reason, we ask that you abide by the following guidelines when packing. 1) Shirts must have short sleeves or a collar. No sleeveless tank tops, except on the beach. 2) Shorts must be long enough to reach your fingertips when your arms are at your sides. No short-shorts. 3) Shirts must cover your stomach. Bare arms and legs only. 4) One-piece swimsuits only. No bikinis. Tanks may be worn over bikini tops. 5) Flip-flops are for the pool. Work shoes are for the work site. PACKING LIST You will absolutely need the highlighted items. The rest of this list is a guideline and not exhaustive. Use your discretion. Arrange to share blow dryers with others on the trip. Cell Phones are a blessing and a curse. A blessing because we can all call home, check-in, and finish our conversations in a reasonable time. A curse because we lose the ability to separate ourselves for the entire trip and devote ourselves completely to the tasks at hand. Cell phones are not prohibited from the trip, but they will be prohibited from being used at any time other than personal time. If there is an emergency in which you need to contact your child, please notify an adult on the trip first. Negative news from home can be overwhelming for a child and it helps if we know ahead of time so we can monitor their well-being. IPods can be used during personal time. They may also be used in the bus or van. Cameras or other items that you may wish to have with you at our worksite may be left unattended at times. Please take this into consideration when deciding what to pack. What Not to Bring Heated irons are prohibited from the trip. Don’t bring what you cannot afford to lose. Please, leave behind the extra snacks.
