Read the second half of Measuring Penny starting on page 15 (the “see saw”
page.) Penny weighs 16 pounds. Ask the students if they can think of other
objects that weigh 16 pounds.
Show the students the scale.

Could Penny be weighed on this scale? Discuss the weight markings on the
scale and show them that this scale can only weigh items that are five
pounds or less.
