UB ROCKS
Upward Bound - CBC
May 2016
Beeville, Mathis, Skidmore-Tynan, Pettus
Hey UB!
Summer is almost here! We’re in the home stretch! We have three
meeting dates this month, two of which are Summer Parent meetings.
You will only need to attend one on either May 11th or 21st.
Please note that we will have Dual Enrollment advisors and the
health department here on the 21st. The health department will offer
the MCV4 vaccination, which is necessary to stay in the dorms and
enroll in CBC classes. It is effective for 5 years.
Have you earned enough points to attend our summer trip? Well I
have good news for you! You now only need 110 points to go on our
insanely fun summer extravaganza.
You will earn 10 pts for each meeting you attend = May 7th &
11th OR 21st
Assignments count for 5 pts each (AND gets you $5 for every
assignment completed) This is a great opportunity to catch up
on points if you missed a meeting or two and need a boost!
And that’s not all! ;) You will have a chance to earn 40 points during
the summer as well! If you’re a 9th or 10th grader, you can earn points
by attending classes on Tuesdays (we will bus you in like a regular
Instructional Saturday) and by attending the Leadership Camp
(details coming soon – but it’s amazing).
Juniors and Seniors must pass your
summer class to be eligible to attend,
which will also grant you an additional 40
points.
There is a total of 160+ possible points
that can be awarded. Again, only 110 are

2. Scroll down to Online Workshops.
3. Click on the Student Lingo link
4. Look for 10 Tips for Success in Your Online
Class under the Learning to Learn section.
TSI Testing
If you are planning to take
classes this summer, you will
need to complete the TSI test
(unless you are pursuing a
vocational degree such as
welding, criminal justice or
cosmetology.) We will offer
the TSI test on May 7th so make
sure to be there!
ICYMI!!!!
Is your summer schedule set? We will have Dual Enrollment advisors here at our May 21st meeting.
Freshman and sophomores are not staying in the dorms but may take DC classes. Please remember that
you are responsible for paying for your classes. (NOTE: If you participate in the Beeville ACE program,
ACE will pay for one of your classes if you have the required 30 hours. Please see Mrs. Baird or Mr.
Garcia, the ACE coordinator.)
SENIOR BRIDGE APPLICATIONS!!! This year ALL seniors who plan to stay in the dorms and get the $2000
scholarship MUST complete the Bridge application form (Now available online at coastalbend.edu/UB).
It is an application, essay and several forms that will need to be completed and turned in by the end of
April to be considered. IT IS NOT HARD, but it will take some time. By completing this application, you
are letting Mrs. Baird know that you want to stay in the dorms, get two free college classes, books and
food for summer session 1. The bridge program is NOT required for seniors to attend, but is very
beneficial and not to mention fun for 6 weeks!
SENIORS
Let’s see those pretty faces! We’re going to have a photo session for
all seniors at our May 7th and May 21st meeting dates. IT’S FREE!!!
Let Mrs. Baird know what time slot you would like
([email protected]; 361-343-3125) and we’ll provide you
with digital copies of all of your beautiful pics. Sessions are 30
minutes long and MUST be scheduled. Bring whatever you’d like to
be photographed with. We love you! Happy Graduation!
SUMMER LIFE
Time to think about the dorms! We will assign rooms for Juniors
and Seniors on May 7th. Make sure to attend if you want to have a
say in who your roommate is! ;)
RECRUITS
And finally, please remember to tell your friends about us! We will
be accepting new students soon and WHAT KIND OF FRIEND ARE
YOU IF YOU DON’T EVEN TELL THEM ABOUT US???? If that guilt
trip worked, please send them our way for applications. ;) May 7th
is the last date to test this semester.
Counting down the days til summer! I’m so excited – our trip is going to be OUT OF THIS WORLD.*
*Disclaimer: we are not actually leaving Earth.
